Philip Haas's third feature film, THE BLOOD ORANGES, is based on the 1972 erotic cult novel by John Hawkes. Sumptuous blood oranges are only part of the tropical allure of the idyllic Mediterranean setting where Cyril (Charles Dance) and Fiona (Sheryl Lee of TWIN PEAKS fame), a sexually liberated American couple, have taken up residence. Accustomed to extramarital affairs, they eagerly invite another couple, Hugh (Colin Lane) and Catherine (Laila Robins), who are vacationing in the area with their children, to their small villa for some adulterous fun and games. They even allow Hugh, who is a photographer, to take pictures of their erotic activities. But when a dark secret involving their two guests is unexpectedly revealed, Cyril and Fiona's utopia of free love is threatened. Bernard Zitzermann's engaging cinematography adds visual flair to this steamy tale of sexual excess and obsession. [More]

Reviews for The Blood Oranges
With repeated use of such ridiculous, 'risqué' terms as 'the love lunch' and 'sex singer,' can anyone take this film seriously as drama or erotica?
