Consensus: The surfing sequences are exhilarating, but the plot is pretty forgettable and trite.

Bosworth is Anne Marie, a determined surfer who shares a beachside shack with her best friends Eden (Michelle Rodriguez) and Lena (Sanoe Lake), and younger sister Penny (Mika Boorem). Just days away from the infamous Rip Masters surfing contest, Anne Marie's life is thrown into turmoil. After being fired from her housekeeping job at a luxury resort hotel, she is courted by the hunky NFL quarterback Matt Tollman (Matthew Davis). As she tries to contain the wild emotions that are threatening to overwhelm her, Anne Marie tries to come to terms with a surfing accident from her past that nearly killed her. In order to survive the contest's deadly, crushing waves, Anne Marie must reach deep within herself to find the courage necessary to come out on top. With BLUE CRUSH, director John Stockwell gives the audience what they want: bikinis, music, romance, and surfing. His picture is graced with David Hennings' gorgeous photography, which captures the beauty and the excitement of the immensely popular sport. [More]

Reviews for Blue Crush
The target audience should go home wanting a surfboard for Christmas.
The acting is generally not bad in this movie... but the real star is the camerawork.
In all, American girls could do worse than have Blue Crush as their own summer action movie.
I'm sure that an interesting film could easily be made about girl surfers, this just ain't it.
No hay mucho material histriónico definitivamente. Pero la Bosworth no lo requiere (jeje). Brilla una colección de fotografías impresionantes de acción y olas. Sólo eso.
The feature film hidden within does not begin to match the fabulous scenery.
Not "The Endless Summer," but filmed well enough to register artistically.
It’s inoffensive, cheerful, built to inspire the young people, set to an unending soundtrack of beach party pop numbers and aside from its remarkable camerawork and awesome scenery, it’s about as exciting as a sunburn.
A great-looking movie about surfing with a marginal love story grafted onto it, in much the same way an arm might be grafted onto a cocker spaniel.
Though the visuals are often gorgeous, the dramatic elements don't always work quite as well as they should because there is not enough attention given to them.
There's absolutely no reason why Blue Crush, a late-summer surfer girl entry, should be as entertaining as it is
The amazing film work is so convincing that by movies’ end you’ll swear you are wet in some places and feel sand creeping in others.
