This is enormous fun, one of the best TV adaptations to date, and guaranteed to provoke a nostalgic misty eye and mischevious grin in anybody who's ever owned a crimplene tank top.

Consensus: Though lightweight and silly, The Brady Bunch Movie still charms as homage to the 70s sitcom.

The plot here (about a ruthless land developer who wants to buy the Brady home) is secondary to the playful juxtaposition of the Brady's era with our own. The film dotes on the peculiarities of 70s fashion and lingo with an almost religious fervor. The kids seem as lost in their wide-collared, pastel shirts as they do in their anachronistic moral universe. Marcia, for instance, is oblivious to the come-ons from a lesbian friend and she haughtily informs a date that she doesn't go to "third base." Several members of the original cast make cameo appearances. [More]

Reviews for Brady Bunch Movie
While the young actors are all fine at spoofery, we get the impression that only Long, McKean and Cole really understand the joke.
[Director Thomas] drawn hilariously synthetic performances from a shrewdly cloned cast.
The problem with The Brady Bunch is that, satirical or serious, ninety minutes is too much.
There are a surprizing number of good laughs, but in the end it's an NBC movie of the week filmed in 35mm.
Apparently someone else besides yours truly was watching the eighties sitcom "Day by Day".
The Brady Bunch Movie is -- to exhaust this string of metaphors -- pure junk food. But like most junk food, it sure tastes good.
The film establishes a bland, reassuring, comforting Brady reality - a certain muted tone that works just fine but needs, I think, a bleaker contrast from outside to fully exploit the humor.
The Brady Bunch Movie is just another weak attempt to hit our nostalgia buttons.
John Waterish amalgamation that both pricks and honors the ideal American family
Part homage, part spoof, the deft balancing act is a clever, engaging adaption.
Wonder of wonders, Thomas and her colleagues have turned this mother lode of 1970s kitsch into a pretty tasty little comedy.
The actors try hard, but the screenplay isn't solid enough to keep any of them consistently clever.
One of the first of the 1970s TV series to get the big-screen treatment, The Brady Bunch Movie remains virtually the only successful film from that genre.
It made me wistful not only for a piece of my youth, but also for an era when families were functional, communities seemed closer.
A curiously sour movie in its amused contempt for this fatuous family.
The sitcom elements are strung together rather than interwoven; there's no sense of movement or development in the film.
If dumbness is a large part of our problem, then The Brady Bunch Movie is a small (and oddly cheery) part of its solution.
