Disappointing comedy that takes a single joke and attempts to stretch it over an entire movie, with predictably poor results.

SNL's Will Forte co-writes and stars in this raucous comedy alongside ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT's Will Arnett. Dean and John Solomon are very close. In fact, they are so close that they live together in a baby-blue apartment, even as adults. Having been home-schooled in the Arctic, the brothers have grown to depend on each other completely, and have been robbed of learning many basic social skills. The men are clueless in the department of romance, and when they discover their beloved father (Lee Majors) is on his deathbed, they suddenly feel the pressure to procreate before he's gone. Determined to make their father proud, they set out to woo a woman into having their baby, hardly grasping the many obstacles that are sure to come their way. Arnett and Forte seem at ease playing overgrown boys who never grew up. Both comedians sport toothy grins and exaggerated frowns as they navigate the tricky world of dating and the even more difficult dilemma of trying to find a woman to impregnate. Luckily, one woman, Janine (SNL's Kristin Wiig in an oddly straight role), agrees to do it if they pay her. But the more she observes of the brothers' immaturity, the more she must be convinced they are capable of raising a child. This is the third feature film directed by multi-talented comedian Bob Odenkirk (of MR. SHOW fame). While his first film, MELVIN GOES TO DINNER, was a stark social drama, his more recent LET'S GO TO PRISON had much in common with this quirky comedy. Combined with the over-the-top acting styles of his two stars (and fellow Odenkirk fave Chi McBride as Janine's tough teddybear boyfriend), Odenkirk's offbeat sensibility produces a film packed with awkwardly humorous moments. Reviews
Odd-couple comedy that tries much too hard and, in other ways, not hard enough.
Oh, brother! Firing blanks in every direction, this tedious vehicle for two hard-to-like comedians is stillborn from the off.
Direction is undistinguished, and the editing leaves far too much room for laughs that never arrive.
A series of musty gross-out gags ranging in sophistication from sperm bank hijinks to sloppy man-on-man kissing, Bob Odenkirk’s cringemaker-with-a-heart is a ragged Xerox of Dumb And Dumber that seems incredibly creaky after the summer of Superbad.
The only amusement here comes from counting the imaginary tumbleweeds that so frequently roll across the screen.
Audiences will need an epidural to endure the excruciating pain of watching this geek-and-jerk combo stumble through three trimesters.
The script focuses more on its over-egged punchlines than any genuine attempt to tell a story that might amuse us. And it feels like a one-gag sketch stretched beyond the breaking point.
...benefits from the inclusion of several genuinely funny whacked-out bits of comedy...
The story makes no sense, and the two lead characters are repulsive, but I must confess I laughed immoderately at this clever piece of junk.
Imagines what might happen if Rod and Todd Flanders grew up and decided to have a surrogate child together.
Indeed the exercise in barely-organized stupidity that it appears to be.
What feels like a three-hour descent into boredom is only a 90-minute test of might -- pitting you against unlikable characters, horribly written dialogue, and direction that's as painful as a root canal.
