This time the two bawdy comics portray Slicker Smith and Herbie Brown in a sequel to their first outing, BUCK PRIVATES. The film begins as they attempt to return gracefully from the war to civilian life. Things begin to get a little tricky when they try to smuggle a young orphaned French girl into this country. Efforts to conceal her result in an attempt to bail out a midget car racer which turns into a chase in which the three of them end up leading the police on a madcap cross-country race. Produced in 1941, near the end of World War II, the film also features The Andrew Sisters, who introduce the enduring hit song, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." Another great moment transpires when Herbie Brown dangles from a clothesline strung between two buildings. The gag-packed screenplay is based on a story by Richard Macauley and Bradford Ropes. Nat Pendleton is perfect as the hard-nosed cop who hopes to stop the boys in their tracks. [More]
