Cannes 2008: Tintin 3 Helmer(s) Found?

Two directorial legends set to unite.

We already knew that Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg were planning a series of three movies based on the 'Tintin' stories, and now it seems the bearded duo have sorted out their directorial workload for the trilogy.

Spielberg - whilst discussing Indy IV at Cannes this week - told The Dominion Post; "We are going to make three Tintin movies back-to-back. I'll direct the first one, Peter will direct the second one. We'll probably co-direct the third one."

Aparently those involved are still not willing to spill the beans on what Tintin books will be filmed -- (though we're hoping 'Tintin in Tibet' is among them -- if only for the yeti) -- but filming on the first instalment will get going this September. Meanwhile Last Legion scamp Thomas Sangster will play the titular reporter from Belgium.

A film jointly directed by Spielberg and Jackson? Sounds awesome to us, what do you think?

Ausome... I loved Tintin as a kind and I am sure they will do a good job with it... Im just wondering when is spielberg going to do Lincoln, Chicago 10, or hopefully even Indy 5 or Mutt Willimas. It seems like he has always got a big schedual.

Stanley kubrick and Spielberg also sounded awesome at the time, and all we got was a boring, never-ending forgettable movie called AI...

I grew up in France but I never liked Tintin...

I'm not excited about Tintin. I don't know much about it, but from what I know of the source material, it seems kind of bland and kiddie for these two big directors. I'd rather see Jackson focus on the Hobbit prequels with del Toro and Spielberg finally make his Lincoln film.

Seems like one big cop out. Spielberg and jackson seem to have inflated their egos so high that they think no one else is upto the task. Sure it will be a good film, but I want the trifecta of three different directorial styles for the three films. Del Toro, Scott, Boyle, Besson,Rietman (maybe), all these directors would bring a different approach that could still feel familiar tot he series, too bad S&J got arrogant.

So are you saying they suck, because have you ever seen Kubricks Full Metal Jacket, Dr. Strangelove, The Shining, 2001 Spacy odyssey, Lolita, and Eyes Wide Shut was good... or have you ever seen Spielbergs little indie movies such as the INDY series, Schindler's List, Jaws, Munich, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, Saving Private Ryan, Jurasic Park, The Color Purple, and Empire of the Sun... So you dont think there ausome because of AI? Which I actually thought was good but couldve been better. I always thought it wouldve been great if the kid malfuctioned and started to hurt people.

Personally i think it will reveal itself to be quite the trilogy, being a big fan of Tintin and really liking the style of the of both directors, though not so fond of LOTR i can still appreciate it's style. I imagine Spielberg will do Tintin in a similar style to that of Indiana jone's which in my eyes will work a treat, i personally cant imagine as someone said earlier, that they might make it bland and kiddie like, i totally disagree the original tintin stories were obviously adjusted to suit children audiences but i think for the film it will be alot different.
Really looking forward to this.

Jokerboy1991, I'm not critizing Kubrick or Spielberg, I loved all their movies, but when their "collaboration" was announced it sounded like it was going to be the best thing ever... and it wasn't... I'm not saying retarded crap like "it was the worst movie ever made" blablabla... but I personnaly didn't enjoy it at all...maybe the first 15 min...after that it's just the "already seen before" pinocchio story...

Tintin...well they're using the latest James Cameron technology and so... but I was a lot more excited about Spielberg possibly bringing Ghost in the shell to live action...than Tintin..
