Cannes 2009: Primeval Movie Announced
ITV sci-fi to become big budget Hollywood blockbuster.
Warner Bros. has bought the rights to produce a movie based on the ITV series Primeval, according to Variety.
The show, which airs on BBC America in the US, is to be adapted by Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, Angels & Demons), who is penning the first draft of a script.
Primeval - co-created by Tim Haines and Adrian Hodges - revolves around a team of five scientist bought together to investigate prehistoric and futuristic creatures that travel through wormholes and appear in present-day Britain.
Warner Bros. plan to ramp up the action and spectacle, and (of course) transplant the action to the US.
Producer Kerry Foster said: "There is a solid mythology to the series, but the movie has the dinosaur element of Jurassic Park and the time travel element of Lost, and it just feels like the kind of big movie that Warner Bros. does well."

on May 15 2009 06:58 AM I like the concept behind the UK Primeval, however, the series is painful to watch. It seems to be aimed at young teenagers, with childish humour and paper thin characters. The dialogue often makes me groan. I hope if it gets transferred to the big screen it loses it "kiddy" friendly storytelling and gets adapted for a more grown up audience. Its not Jurassic park, and the new stories about creatures coming to our period from the future are quite interesting. I just hope its done correctly. (Reply to this) |

on May 16 2009 12:11 AM I highly doubt this film will be anything above mediocre. Like others have said the premise of the show is interesting, and is actually moderately unique. However I don't think it will translate well at all. Due to the horrible CGI, and amateur actors there is a good chance the film will become an unintentional laugh-fest. Honestly even the most jaded fans have to admit the writing, and acting leaves a lot to be desired. Regardless I do hope it at least pleases the casual to hardcore fans. (Reply to this) |

on May 23 2009 09:22 PM im a big fan of the ITV series, so i kno these guys are gonna screw everything up, and probably are gonna get rid of some of the key characters. plus, all that "action" theyre talkin about is gonna make things worse. Why can't these people just leave things as they are, instead of tryin to revamp everythin to make themselves seem more creative than they actually are? (Reply to this) |

Like a lot of English SciFi the actors act as if they are doing something serious work, and their sincerity is a lot of the show. Likely the thing will be a thin plot with lots of messy violence, another basically boring American movie. (Reply to this) |
