When the mayor of the town learns that the Spaniards are about to invade, he enacts a plan to foil them. He pretends he's just died, the menfolk go into hiding and then, if they're lucky, the conquerors will move on to another town. Well, with the men away, the women of Boom will play and they cheerfully greet the soldiers like old friends and have a big party. Afterwards, the Spaniards go on their merry way. The men of Boom come out of hiding and foolishly thank themselves for saving the village. [More]

Reviews for Carnival in Flanders
The mock-heroic bagatelle, a risqué undertaking at the time, still shines today with its shrewd commentary on human nature.
