Here Comes a Child's Play Remake
Thanks a lot, Rob Zombie!
Well, we knew it was only a matter of time, right?
Shock Till You Drop reports that Child's Play producer David Kirschner is preparing to give his franchise the remake/reboot treatment. The news comes direct from Kirschner, who tells the site:
"We're discussing it with Don Mancini, who has written all of them with us from the beginning...the next one we're going to do is we're going back and remaking the first one and even pushing it further and making a very terrifying version of the first one, which is pretty scary as it is."
Having Mancini on board as the new film's writer/director is something that will no doubt please fans of the original -- but the big question here is still why, and Shock Till You Drop was nice enough to ask Kirschner just that. His response:
"Look at 'Halloween.' It's kind of commerce to keep the franchise going, and another reason to go see it. For me, it's exciting, because the first one was really scary and then from there, we kind of... my favorites are 1 and 4. I love 4, it really makes me laugh and I think Jennifer Tilly is so great, but just the idea of going back to where we were the first time around and I think for me, it's almost 30 years later for me as a filmmaker from where I started to now, and the idea of taking some skill that maybe I didn't possess then and putting it towards the next film, I think could be exciting."
There you have it. For more information on the new Child's Play -- including which new "twists" the audience might be able to expect, the possible involvement of Brad Dourif, and whether the new Chucky will be computer-generated -- click on the link below!

halose7en writes: on Oct 23 2007 07:14 AM I loved the original film - and the sequels (up until Seed) were great - although I would've liked more scares and less laughs in part 4, but whatever. The point is, this really should be left alone. I don't want every single horror movie remade. Where's it going to end? At the very least, I really hope that they stick to the claim that Chucky will not be CGI. That is the worst idea ever. (Reply to this) |

Kid_Ikarus writes: on Oct 23 2007 08:08 AM As long as Brad Dourif is still giving Chucky the voice, i'm okay with this. But whatever happened to George Clooney's remake of Pet Semetary? I was actually pretty interested in this one, as I absolutely LOVE Pet Semetary... (Reply to this) |

Ender7406 writes: on Oct 23 2007 08:11 AM I don't see the point if Chucky's not going to be CGI. You know, why not have the whole set be CGI, actually? In fact, SCREW a Child's Play remake, how about Monster House 2: Playtime? (Reply to this) |

crystalwhiteeyes writes: on Oct 23 2007 08:15 AM I agree with you, Ikarus! As long as Brad Dourif does Chuckys voice, there's nothing to complain about from me. I'm a big fan of his, and Chucky. Just get rid of Jennifer Tilly!! Her voice drives me up the wall, and ruined the 4th and 5th movie. These remakes are getting a bit old. Next thing you know they'll remake The Crow, which should be left alone! (Reply to this) |

tawo writes: on Oct 23 2007 09:00 AM In reply to this comment (#1216294) YOU RIGHT TOMBSTONE! Thats a movie worthy of remaking...ROBOCOP....CONAN. Childs splay needs to be left as it was, Some movies dont need remakes coz then it just desecrates the whole franchise-- thats almost like them trying to do a remake of scarface--you see cant be done and shouldn't be done. (crap, i hope i didnt just giev them idea by saying that. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! (Reply to this) |

Uradik Smoke writes: on Oct 23 2007 09:11 AM The madness just wont stop ... Remake or Reboot franchises that people want to see ... I would be so down with a Robocop reboot , movies that could really benifit from the CGI advances and show the true intent and vision of the directors ... This may be blasphemy , but i would love to see a Ridley Scott Re-make of Aliens ... (Reply to this) |

bluestar50 writes: on Oct 23 2007 10:12 AM You have to be kidding. Another pointless remake? Why not remake Dances With Wolves while you're at it? Or a remake of Jaws perhaps. (Reply to this) |

Holly Jolly writes: on Oct 23 2007 10:55 AM Child' Play is no where as popular as Halloween, and to not even get a new director? Get the guy who did Dog Soldier and Decent and this could be interesting, other than that and you have a remake that will make a few million, nothing more. (Reply to this) |

jaredisme writes: on Oct 23 2007 12:31 PM could they maybe just combine the karate kid remake with this and just have "karate kid vs. chucky".....it would kill 2 bad ideas with one stone (Reply to this) |
