Roidrage writes: on Aug 03 2007 09:12 AM In reply to this comment (#1006488) absolutely agree with nathan but I dont know if when you said terrible if you meant by movie or the FX. Its true the FX were terrible but I enjoyed the movie alot when I was a little toddler. The FX might have looked outdated but for that time period it was tolerable. Of all the movies that needed a remake, Clash of the Titans is dying to be remade. I would have preferred if Gullermo Del Toro would have directed it but Sam Raimi works as well too (Reply to this) |

redrum writes: on Aug 03 2007 10:33 AM To say that the effects in Clash of the Titans are terrible, or tolerable for their time, is very ignorant. Ray Harryhausen is probably the most accomplished stop-motion/optical effects artist of his time. The Medusa sequence in this movie is a classic piece of film. (Reply to this) |

FireflyFan4evr writes: on Aug 03 2007 10:40 AM Please don't make a remake of this film! It was awesome in all of its cheese! Ray Harryhausen is dead, and thus, people should respect that he cannot work on this film, which would have been the only way to do a remake if it was ever done. (Reply to this) |

Sputnik99 writes: on Aug 03 2007 10:41 AM Remakes really are compliments to the originals, even if they aren't as good as the first. I don't mind if they remake old movies that have crummy specials effects and upgrade their looks. Let's just hope they keep the quality up. And I figure sometime, maybe not for another generation or so, Citizen Kane will be remade. Classics can't be ignored forever. (Reply to this) |

Hans Gruber writes: on Aug 03 2007 11:16 AM I hope they keep the original score if this film is remade, it was fantastic. They'll never be able to match what the great Ray Harryhausen accomplished, though. (Reply to this) |

That being said, I'm all for a remake, especially if it's from Raimi. Let's just hope he takes it. (Reply to this) |

criddic writes: on Aug 03 2007 11:32 AM Ray Harryhausen is NOT dead. He is alive at 87 years old. He quit making movies a long time ago, though. His effects for Jason & the Argonauts, Golden Voyage of Sinbad, and a host of other classic adventure movies are among the best of their kind. People are so used to CGI that they think something is wrong with stop-motion effects, but they just are spoiled by slick CGI images. Clash of the Titans contains some of Harryhausen's best work including Medusa and the Kraken. Some critics were annoyed by the little owl robot, because it was too similar to a certain Star Wars character. All in all, though, the film has a fairly strong fanbase. It's just fun. Not slick explosions and quick one-liners, but a real story and some imagination. For some reason the 1980s are looking pretty good for action-adventure movies these days. (Reply to this) |

Elixor writes: on Aug 03 2007 12:15 PM Clash of the Titans is a excellent classic movie and the effects were top notch for their time. I don't know if I can get excited for a remake however. How about making a film in the same genre, but a different story? Granted expecting Hollywood to come out with a story that's anywhere nearly as creative as Clash of the Titans is almost laughable, hence the remake I guess. Don't forget that Ray Harryhausen did the special effects for Mysterious Island also. Another great classic. (Reply to this) |

cgcbooks writes: on Aug 03 2007 12:35 PM Updated special effects do not make for a better film. I won't purchase the new Star Trek DVD's for that reason. (Reply to this) |

tiganofamily writes: on Aug 03 2007 01:48 PM please o please get rid of the stupid robotic owl, that was the dumbest part of the original, other than that i'm lokking forward to the remake, i actually think the cgi effects could be a POSITIVE FOR THIS TYPE OF MOVIE.if you have seen the 1981 film you'll know what i'm talking about. the stop motion scorpions and medusa characters are laughable and the scene with the kracken is downright awful. medicineman writes: on Aug 03 2007 05:51 PM If Raimi is smart he'll take the remake of Clash of the Titans and run because despite the tough talk from New Line, he hasn't a chance in hell of getting The Hobbit and he knows it. New Line is simply using him as a bargaining chip with Jackson. (Reply to this) |

dracus writes: on Aug 03 2007 05:55 PM In reply to this comment (#1009248) You just may have something there medicineman. New Line know they'll be mercilessly crucified if they give The Hobbit to anyone but Jackson and unlike Jesus, New Line won't rise from the dead. (Reply to this) |

Yeah, and not only that, we're also spoiled by real actors because they move too fluidly and look too real, so maybe they should be claymation as well. In fact, let's dispense with all realistic looking imagery and go for what looks patently fake. Do you not realize that if past filmmakers had had CGI to use they would've used it? They used what they had available to make special-effects films look *as real as possible*. If they could've made them look even *more* real, they would have! (eye-roll) (Reply to this) |

Alexaion writes: on Aug 08 2007 04:47 PM Darker? Why the heck darker? What is it with this new fad that assumes 'darker' is better? I, for one, think that is absolutely stupid. Perseus' tale is an old folk tale, not some Euripidean or Senecan tragedy. Dark has nothing to do with it, and if it must be something, let it be cheesy. It's the typical 'hero is chosen by the gods, and given magical weapons to fight evil.' People will see something dark and go 'whoa, the myths must have really been like that; this is really the Greek myths...' but it's not, and most people aren't educated in them so won't know the bloody difference. I don't mind adaption - Troy was a fine movie in its own right - but this just feels wrong to me. I hope they keep a lighter mood. Don't get me wrong, I love serious things, and in my opinion Tragedy is the highest of literary arts, but things must be done in the most appropriate manner. (Reply to this) |

drf33lg00d writes: on Aug 28 2007 09:26 AM I'm skeptical of remakes, especially when they're not done by the original team/studio. I prefer new movies with old attitude instead of old movies with new attitude. Harry Potter, Pirates of the Carribean, and 300 are examples of new movies with classic storytelling. Harryhausen's creatures can never be duplicated with CGI so it's best if they don't even try. Make a new movie, not an old one. Hercules, Sinbad, and Odysseus have all been done. I didn't see the last Argonauts movie. Personally, I think Kalibos should've had his own TV series like Hercules! Maybe they should do something from the Nordic myths. Has Thor been overused? sprwelch writes: on Nov 25 2007 11:09 PM Okay.. I have to admit I rally enjoyed this movie as a kid too! I was 11 when this move came out, it was fun and cheesey but I loved it. With that being said, I still have to admit that the effects sucked! I always want to laugh at the current generation who think good special fx didn't exist until cgi!! That's bulls**t.. Clash of the Titans sucked when it came out and we all laughed at it then as well. i do love the comment "it was good for it's time".. as if the damned movie was made in 1950!! But just to clarify I have compiled a short list of the type of work being produced a couple of years before this movie and just one year after. Star Wars (1977) Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) Alien (1979) Apocalypse Now (1979) Mad Max (1979) Superman II (1980) Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Time Bandits (1981) Excalibur (1981) Mad Max 2 (1981) E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982) Poltergeist (1982) Blade Runner (1982) Guys just admit this particular movie was hokey with crappy stop action fx.. but stop attacking the whole time period, because the movies made back then were artistic, took more work than most modern cgi crap Hollywood spews out nowadays! Plus these stand the test of time as classics. I would like to see how many current movies do the same in 20 to 30 years! (Reply to this) |
