Matt Reeves Prepares Cloverfield Sequel, The Invisible Woman

Get ready for Clover vs. MechaClover.

Cloverfield may have had a monster-sized box office drop-off its second week, but strong reviews and its huge opening are enough to convince Paramount that America's ready for more: director Matt Reeves is in early talks with the studio to begin work on the Cloverfield sequel.

Cloverfield producer J.J. Abrams and writer Drew Goddard will be returning for the sequel should the project go forward.

Reeves is also in talks with GreeneStreet Films to direct The Invisible Woman (no relation to the Marvel character), which he also wrote. Variety describes Invisible as "a Hitchcock-style thriller that probes the mind of a former beauty queen who turns to a life of crime to protect her family."

If all goes according to plan, Reeves will direct the The Invisible Woman after the Cloverfield sequel wraps. No word on whether the POV format will return, but early reports indicate Abrams has expressed interest filming the movie entirely on the Prius backup camera.

Sounds more like a comedy with Jessica Simpson or Lindsay Lohan.

You're a hot young director who just made a successful movie. You can pick from numerous projects for your next film. How many of you would pick The Invisible Woman? Even if it's not some invisible spoof movie, but a well written thriller. Maybe he wants to be the next Hitchcock or De Palma or maybe he's just really lame.

I like the idea of seeing the action from another perspective, following the guy on the other side of the bridge with the camera. Maybe then we can see what happens to the creature and New York in general. Don't do it entirely, third person, "alsanali" is right, it didn't work for BW2. Maybe a mix of the two formats, first and third person, together with a star or two as supporting characters.

I'm up for the gamble of what a sequel could be, but is this a joke? Filmed from the POV of a cars back up camera? Does this mean the movie will be completely silent the whole way out? I didn't know back up cameras had the option of recording. It may be a more stable platform that wouldn't cause as much of the shaking or dizziness you get with the camcorder POV, which I believe is hurting the repeat viewings at the box office. I really liked the movie and was tempted to see it again but I recall feeling strangely claustrophobic during the film. Perhaps I've just gotten too used to modern films with a wide angle view, but I kept hoping it would open up. I have ideas for how they could get a stable wide high definition view for a sequel but I'm not in the business...yet.

Don't get me wrong, i actually loved Cloverfield, but i just don't see what is the purpose of a sequel. What gave the movie such intensity was that you didn't know what the monster was, adding heightened suspense as you run around not knowing what will be around every corner. The monster (& friends) has been exposed and the biggest events surrounding the attack were shown, so what next? If we got the POV of the monster that would be cool (albeit pretty stupid), but that's just about the only reason to pay 9 bucks for a sequel.

i think a sequel could work. i would have it not necessarily a true sequel though. i would just show the same night from say the army's perspective. i think it would be cool to have a little cameo of Rob and Hud and the girls as they're brought into the army's quarantine.i also wouldn't strictly use the handheld cameras. it was a cool idea and it still is, but i wouldn't whore it out by making a sequel exactly the same as the original

Well, Ive yet to see Cloverfield, and I dont have a clue what a prius backup camera is. But from what i can gather, Cloverfield is filmed just on a home movie camera, right?

How bout in the sequel, we see it filmed by a proper News team and broadcast like the News, kinda like CNN breaking news, or News 24, with an on the spot reporter, kinda like the news in Iraq.

Or does cloverfield already do this?

Well I'm happy that J.J. Abrams will be coming back, but I don't think Cloverfield needs a sequel. It's kind of like Pirates 1, where everybody was happy with just one and then Disney milked it. Looks like Paramount is doing the same thing.

Plus, I enjoyed Cloverfield for the fact that there probably wouldn't be a sequel to make the movie seem a little more realistic. I don't want to ruin that great experience.
