An attractive female boarder (Terry Moore) stirs the barely-hidden seeds of contempt between a tired, disappointed housewife (Shirley Booth) and her washed-up, alcoholic doctor husband (Burt Lancaster). In one of the weakest films to be based on Inge's plays, director Daniel Mann, a specialist of soupy melodramas, gets a good performance from Shirely Booth as a self-pitying housewife mourning her youth and a misguided one from Lancaster as her hubby.
