I thought it was announced weeks ago that Gerard Butler will be playing Conan, and John Mctiernan is directing.

My vote would not be for a bodybuilder or a wrestler. It should be someone tall and very fit - but not necessarily super huge. Contrary to other opinions, Conan was also agile and smart (not just strong) - with enough charisma to become king. I like Arnie but I don't think he was ever the right choice. Hopefully whoever is chosen will be able to act and not just "look" like a barbarian - such as John Cena or Brock Lesnar...

lol Dolph Lungren...is he still alive?
If you want to ruin it choose any of the following names: any wrestler (although the Rock....well he rocks), Jean Claudett, Keanu Reeves, Ralph Macchio, Cathy Bates.
The most logical choice would be Christian Bale.

There is one wrestler I think could pull this off (HHH is close I must admit)

Batista...I think he can act well enough and he has an animal look to him...and he is certainly big enough.

Jouko Ahola should play Conan. World's Strongest Man, 1997 & 1999. Star of Werner Herzog's INVINCIBLE.

They will not pick a wrestler or a well known actor I believe they will pick a unknown actor like they did on Superman Returns. Conan was not a musclebound brute his body was very lean and muscular like the Spartans in 300. Robert E Howard created Conan and the other Cimmerians as proto-Celts. They had a very fair complexion unless they traveled into other lands that were warmer.

seriously... come on guys. i really think that conan should have a look like pathfinder, dark and gritty and i think the best person to act as conan is either gerard butler or Matthew McConaughey. i think its not just being buff and hulk looking but the attitude and the features is what makes conan. gerard has that warrior look and matthew has that witty and serious type feature and for sure they both got the body. But hold on now, i really hope that Conan comes out to be a true winner cause i love the conan comics, their bloody and gritty. thats what Conan's about. so i hope the writers either review past conan comics and develope that personal background to make this movie succeed.

It's not going to happen they are going to base it closer to what Robert E Howard wrote way back in the 1930's.

look anyone can play this role, Arnold like 5 lines in barbarian and it worked out, all he needs to be able to do is say that monologue to Krom at the end.

Not exactly I would prefer the actor playing Conan to read all the stories Robert E Howard wrote about Conan or if not that at least the dark horse comics series. Arnold from the original Conan movie and the Conan from the books is a vast difference. Read the books before you pass judgment on who or how the movie should be made.I can hope the director of the film project does his research before filming starts.

What I am failing to understand here is why they need to re-make the original, if that is truly the plan. Why not just continue ala Superman Returns? God knows there are plenty of stories by Howard and then his successors that they don't need another "origin" movie. They can make this the true "second" movie because as far as I am concerned they only made one Conan film that had anything to do with the character and his story lines.

Oh, who are we kidding, they're going to screw this one up like they do damn near everything else. I'm still getting over the shabby treatment "Ghost Rider", my second fave comic growing up, received. And knowing the guys who did "Sahara", which I have never felt moved enough to watch, are doing the screenplay doesn't give me much confidence. Not unless they can get a top-notch director of say Peter Jacksons' caliber to make sure it doesn't get ruined and could make script changes if he saw fit.

On a side note, there is a very unConan-like movie called "The Whole Wide World" starring Renee Zellweger and Vincent D'Onofrio which tells of Robert E. Howards' short tragic life that is very good and well worth renting if you can find it. I know its available on Netflix, give it a look if you're a big fan.
