Consensus: Aside from the unnecessary plot about a downed US spy satellite, there's not much difference between the movie and the TV show.

With the... After having conquered cable television as the world's most hyperactive, animated animal wrangler, Steve Irwin--aka THE CROCODILE HUNTER--takes his hilarious schtick to the big screen. With the help of wife Terri and dog Sue, Irwin embarks on another series of dangerous missions--rescuing snakes, spiders, and baby kangaroos from their current locations and transferring them to safer spots in the Australian Outback. Since this is a feature film, director John Stainton and screenwriter Holly Goldberg Sloan concoct a fictional story to give Irwin's adventure an added kick in the tail. Their concept, a sufficiently outlandish one concerning a shotgun-wielding cattle rancher (Magda Szubanski), CIA operatives, and a missing U.S. government satellite, does the trick quite nicely. The point of this picture, and in fact, the point of anything Steve Irwin-related, is Steve Irwin himself. And with COLLISION COURSE, Irwin proves that his cartoon-like presence is a supremely engaging one, no matter the venue. But Irwin is neither a sensationalist or an exhibitionist. He's a lover of animals as well as nature, and it is this childlike fascination with the earth's deadliest creatures that makes him such a wonder to behold. Crikey! [More]

An exercise in cutting between three tacked-on subplots. The film has moments that make us smile, but mostly feels choppy, drained of momentum and endless.

Folks who already dig Irwin's goofy Down Under demeanor will get more than a tickle; parents will appreciate the film's edutainment factor.

Mr. Irwin's hammy lack of inhibition can be a little wearing; it's a good thing the snakes can't hear, or else they might get really mad. But his enthusiasm is ultimately irresistible.

It's part Discovery Channel, part evening at the Aussie improv, and it proves surprisingly watchable even at 90 minutes.

strictly for kids and that's not an indictment. Steve is a big kid himself, so he knows what will get the kiddies laughing

Steve Irwin is an outrageous combination of St. Francis of Assisi and Indiana Jones -- with a touch of Dr. Dolittle thrown in for good measure.

The filmmakers wisely decided to let Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin do what he does best, and fashion a story around him.
