"Dallas" Casting Net: Jennifer Lopez, Luke Wilson, John Travolta
by RT Staff | March 14, 2006

According to Variety, the big-screen version of 1980s TV soap "Dallas" is likely to include Jennifer Lopez, Luke Wilson, John Travolta, and Shirley MacLaine; "Monster-In-Law" helmer Robert Luketic will direct.

This casting line-up is not yet confirmed, but the trades think it's nearly a done deal. If negotiations do go through, we'll see Travolta as Texas oil tycoon J.R. Ewing, MacLaine as matriarch Miss Ellie, Wilson as nice guy Bobby, and J. Lo as Sue Ellen Shepard (or, as you might remember, Larry Hagman, Barbara Bel Geddes, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray).

The script for "Dallas" is written by newish Sacha Gervasi ("The Terminal") and Robert Harling ("Steel Magnolias," "Soapdish," "The First Wives Club").

Production could start as early as October, once Travolta's drag turn as Edna Turnblad in Adam Shankman's "Hairspray" is done.

Travolta shouldn't have too much of a problem playing a somewhat mean and conniving J.R. He was good in The Punisher and Face-Off, as well as his performance in Broken Arrow. Not too sure about Lopez though.

If she gets rid of her annoying accent and learns to act, why not?

Oh, my god. a Dallas movie. Even my mother, as a die hard fan of the original tv show, will cry when she hears this muck is coming to the big screen.

The cast is good, now hopefully they just have a movie deserving of them.
