Taking up residence in Houston, he begins searching for his illegitimate father and takes up employment as a superintendent at the world renowned Excelsior Dance Studio run by John Burnett (Kris Kristofferson). While working as a lowly handyman, Rafael meets Ruby (Vanessa Williams), a striking dancer. Together they enter into the Las Vegas World Open Dance competition and embark in a heated romance. DANCE WITH ME is a warm heartfelt film. It exhibits Randa Haines' knack for suspenseful, romantic storytelling (she worked as a director on HILL STREET BLUES in the early 1980s). Kris Kristofferson departs from his standard role of grit-iron tough guy to play the effeminate dance instructor. Chayanne is striking and dapper. He demonstrates that dancing is both a sexy art form and a mode of expression for confident and empowered men. [More]

Reviews for Dance With Me
The use of Plowright as a middle-aged frump wanting to get in on the sexy action is deeply patronizing.
A sufficiently ebullient piece of eye candy that can stand on its own two nimble feet.
This is a adequately enjoyable date flick, a lesser semi-precious gem.
A romantic drama that makes the most of the many fine dance sequences in the storyline.
A crowd-pleaser which just might encourage some viewers to get up and frolic in the aisles.
Director Randa Haines is generous with the dance content -- and the choreography by Daryl Matthews and Liz Curtis is imaginative.
As far as feel-good movies go, this one works in spite of a bloated running length (over two hours) and a plot that could use an injection of originality.
Kris Kristofferson was actually cast as an experienced dance instructor -- and a man with actual emotions.
The real creative opportunities lie in visual and choreographic options, and Haines doesn't miss a beat in either department.
For every cliché embraced in its entirety, another is subverted just enough that you're pleasantly surprised.
Sparkles just like an old-fashioned musical--it's beautifully designed and skillfully directed.
The movie sees Ruby, the Williams character, clearly and with surprising truthfulness; she has a depth associated with more serious movies.
Offers an energizing burst of sweetness that delights the palate before fading quickly away.
Dance With Me sells its simplicity almost entirely on the strength of Chayanne's appeal.
