Jennifer Connelly Joins The Day the Earth Stood Still
Keanu barada remake.
by Jeff Giles | November 06, 2007

Variety reports that Jennifer Connelly has signed on to star in 20th Century Fox's Scott Derrickson-directed The Day the Earth Stood Still.

The movie is not, as you might assume from its title, a documentary about the day Connelly filmed that one love scene in The Hot Spot; rather, it's a remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic, and Connelly joins a cast that already includes Keanu Reeves. From the article:

Story kicks off as aliens land on Earth carrying a message for all humans: Live in peace or be destroyed. Connelly is set to portray Helen Benson, the role Patricia Neal played in the 1951 original.

Earth is scheduled to begin filming in Vancouver next month, which gives Connelly time to wrap up work on He's Just Not That Into You. According to Variety's report, Kathy Bates is also in talks to join The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Okaaay... Remake one of the greatest movies ever made. With Keanu Reeves. Great idea. Klaatu Barada Crapto. Why don't you remake Psycho while you're at it. What? Damn...!

Here we go..let's F-up a classic. Keanuu Barada Crapto..how about we redo Duck Soup, Angels With Dirty Faces and Gone with the Wind while we're at it? Or does making an original film that feakin difficult??

For these retards making an original IS that difficult. But I'd like to see it though just to see the aliens.

With all these bloody remakes they should call it The Day Hollywood Stood Still.

Reaves will be able to do the alien justice for he has no emotion.

Still, I would rather they not remake one of my favorite movies.

Jesus.

Okay. 3:10 to Yuma was a movie worth a remake. Ocean's 11. The Mummy. The Thing. Good or Okay movies that had interesting elements that could be updated or made better.

After that boring travesty called 'War of the Worlds' I cannot wait until Spielberg gets a taste of his own medicine. When someone remakes one of his early classics like Close Encounters or E.T.

How freaking arrogant is this Derrickson guy that...six years removed from directing a forgettable DVD bin Hellraiser sequel...he can produce remakes of two transcendent Top-25 classics in 'The Day' and 'The Birds.'

I'm of course sketchy on it being remade, but this is probably one of the few classics that could potentially benefit from a remake, such as 3:10 to Yuma. It has a theme and message that transcends generations and could potentially speak to the present one as well (god can only hope).

There's no topping the original. It's an all time favorite of mine, as well as a part film history. Klaatu Barada Nikto has been reference by George Lucas, Sam Raimi and more. They've made Invasion of the Body Snatchers at least four times, but no one has ever touched this movie before. Why? Because it's already celluloid perfection. This is a stupid stupid remake. Pure arrogance.

You had me at The Day the Earth Stood Still, then lost me at Keanu Reeves. Could still be good though.

i would say having the director responsible for the exorcism of emily rose is enough to turn anybody with any intelligence off this project...that and the fact that he wrote urban legend 2....

People need to be reminded just how good the first one was by seeing just how bad this one will be. Keanu, I hate you, on a very personal level. But seeing Connelly enter the project brings a bit of hope.

I usually hate the idea of remakes and i really like the original movie but how cool will the ship and Gort look now as opposed to '51 when the budget was similar to a twilight zone episode.

Connelly is good and i can stand Keanu more than most so i'll definetly check this one out.

this is depressing, they are going to kill this movie for future generations. Klaatu Barada Crapto!! indeed. i disagree with ollie here, i think the '51 Gort is a nice slice of 50's nostalgia.

I heard C3PO is in need of a job...guess there's our robot. "Oh goodness, I think I'll melt that tank...oh dear oh dear..."
Or maybe mix in a little Terminator 4 (3? 4? Where in the heck are we with that series?)
