on Feb 12 2007 02:31 PM the Departed was the best movie of 06 and proof that martin scorsese deserves and Oscar now more than any other year before. give the man waht rightfully belongs to him. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 12 2007 02:45 PM I couldn't agree with you more (Reply to this) |

on Feb 12 2007 03:16 PM hard to believe a crime flick was sillier than a roadtrip comedy. but i guess that's just my view. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 12 2007 03:31 PM some of my friends didn't like the departed, but those were the fools amongst us :P (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 12 2007 03:38 PM I haven't seen Departed or Prestige (waits to be chastised) but those other three mentioned up top were amazing. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 12 2007 03:54 PM as well it should be film of 06 (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 12 2007 04:29 PM Eh, I'm not too thrilled. I'll be the last to say The Departed wasn't a good movie, but I'd have preferred The Prestige taking this spot.... Ah well, at least it's not Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. For a moment, I thought the RT population would be stupid enough to support it for Flick of '06. Guess not =) (Reply to this) |

on Feb 12 2007 05:22 PM Not exactly an uphill climb. I hate to say it, but The Departed didin't exactly blow my skirt up. Then again, remakes rarely do. Considering the incredible strength of the source material and an apparently unlimited budget, Scorcese should have been able to create a masterwork. Instead, if seemed like he sorta half-assed it, hoping that the star power and the plot twists would be enough. The Prestige did more with less... and had David Bowie :) (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 12 2007 06:54 PM My Top three of the year were mentioned... Children of Men The Departed The Prestige ... but no Pan's Labyrinth?!? I guess that's this year. (Reply to this) |
|
on Feb 12 2007 07:02 PM w00t for Departed, I would've been fine with Children of Men or Pan's taking it too though. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 12 2007 07:36 PM my top five: 1 panīs labyrinth 2 the departed 3 children of men 4 the prestige 5 babel (Reply to this) |

on Feb 12 2007 09:42 PM Departed is not "loosely based", not "inspired", not "revisioned" It's a REMAKE of Infernal Affairs ! Scene for scene, from one plot twist to the next, even the camera angles are the same- it all screams REMAKE ! Funny how the dvd mentions little about it's source material. Let the poor guy (Scorsese) have the Oscar but Infernal Affairs will forever be joined at the hip with this one. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 13 2007 06:34 AM My personal top 5 of the year are: 1. United 93 2. Hard Candy 3. Edmond 4. Deliver Us From Evil/Jesus Camp 5. Half Nelson (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 13 2007 06:48 AM In reply to this comment (#855612) I sometimes wonder how many people on this site have actually seen both Infernal Affairs and The Departed (Reply to this) |
|
on Feb 13 2007 09:04 AM actually I've seen the three infernal affairs movies and I can tell you that IA2 is a better movie than the IA and the departed the first sequel is the story of the rise of the sam/frank character and his rivalry with the police captain wong/queenan, you should check it out IA is bare bones plot, there's no almost no character development, all you can know about them you learn it from andy lau and tony leong's amazing performances and don't even bother with IA3, it's a mess (Reply to this) |

on Feb 13 2007 10:02 AM The Prestige just tore everything else to shit this year, just a brilliant film with one of the best screenplays in years. Tops of the year overall were Prestige, United 93, The Departed, Children of Men, Pan's Labyrinth (that young lead girl is in another league!) and Akeelah and the Bee (criminally overlooked!@#). (Reply to this) |

on Feb 13 2007 10:07 AM My Top Five: 1. Clerks II 2. The Departed 3. Little Miss Sunshine 4. Stranger Than Fiction 5. Pan's Labyrinth In probably the worst year for movies since I became a movie geek and the first time I've ever had a comedy at number one. Still have a good twenty something more to see though so it might change a little bit. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 13 2007 01:22 PM Really The Prestige? I almost have to believe this is just people agreeing with concensus. I can't believe the Prestige would make this many peoples top 5 list. I actually thought it was pretty boring which surprised me cause I really like Christian Bale and Micheal Caine and don't loath Hugh Jackman or Scarlett. POTENTIAL SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN"T SEEN THE MOVIE. My main problem with it was I had it figured out 5 minutes before the Prestige for each event was revealed so there was a feeling of "really that's it? I had that figured out ages ago" Seriously who couldn't tell that was Christian Bale in make-up as soon as they saw him and figure out that's how he was doing his trick. Certainly didn't have the quality shock value I look for in this kind of movie. Films that did it better (The Usual Suspects, Lucky Number Slevin and all M. Night Shamaylans early works). Don't get me wrong that acting was top notch, really just think the story needs work if you're gonna put it on a top 5 list. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 14 2007 10:12 AM In reply to this comment (#855619) I LOVE YOU Preach it! Preach it! PREACH IT! Thank, GOD, somebody realizes this was a boring, predictable film. I was sitting through this amazed at how easy the quote, "biggest mystery of all" was to figure out. This film was very stupid and took itself too seriously. Thank God for RT members like you, bigbrother. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 15 2007 11:28 AM In reply to this comment (#855620) Oh, you're just saying that because I'm great :) Seriously though, didn't like the film except the parts that had Tesla. I think that should have been the whole movie. Would have been much more interesting. (Reply to this) |
|
on Feb 16 2007 01:57 AM You folks can have The Departed. I'm a big Matt fan, and I even stayed awake thru this movie, but by the end I felt...nothing. I don't even want to see it on DVD. (Reply to this) |
|
on Feb 16 2007 08:51 AM the prestige??? seriously, I found the prestige to be below expectations. The movie was predictable but it just kept dragging and dragging. If you want a better movie about magic, look for "The illusionist" with edward norton, Paul G. and Jessica Biel. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 16 2007 07:00 PM My top 5 this year: 1. United 93 2. V for Vendetta 3. Casino Royale 4. Inside Man 5. The DaVinci Code (yes, I'm serious) - The numerous critial complaints about Ron Howard's wooden direction, unfavorable comparisons to the novel, and the miscasting of Tom Hanks are all hogwash! This movie is pure entertainment escapism. Wonderful score by Hans Zimmer. Compelling storyline, intelligent screenplay, beautiful cinematography, and Hanks, Tatou and McKellen create a near perfect pitch of believability. This movie reminds me of my continued affection for The Postman, another critical disaster that deserves much more praise than it's ever received. It's one of my favorite movies of 1997. Okay, let the negative comments commence... Honorable Mention: The Departed (Reply to this) |
|
on Feb 17 2007 07:46 AM In reply to this comment (#855624) Finally another Postman fan. Costner is THE MAN!!!! My Top 5: V for Vendetta Casino Royale Superman Returns Clerks II The Departed (Reply to this) |

on Feb 18 2007 06:39 AM In reply to this comment (#855629) Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Children of men come out 2007? I haven't seen it yet, but I'm really not that big of a CLive Owen fan. Didn't like him in King Arthur so that's poisoned me against him I think. (Reply to this) |
|
on Feb 18 2007 01:36 PM Late 2006 but yes, it is way better than this turd of a remake. (Reply to this) |
|
on Feb 18 2007 02:48 PM the departed is awesome. even though it is a remake, i liked it because it was funny. mark wahlberg was so funny in this movie. see children of men. it's a great movie!!!! (Reply to this) |
