Baxter, California, population 89, boasts little more than a gigantic pink concrete ice cream cone and an unfinished water park. Amidst the tumbleweed and dust, a group of innocently rebellious teenage friends try to beat their perpetual boredom and find a sense of purpose--or at least a way out of a town devoid of opportunity. But everything changes when a truck carrying a mysterious substance crashes, and the FBI places Baxter under quarantine. Reviews
This quirky and endearing film celebrates the ways in which people can bond together, share dreams, and change their lives in the midst of a crisis.
Another reason to abolish the now-abhorrent [Sundance] festival altogether.
Freeman seems to have spent much time lining up the plotlines, but somewhere along the way forgot to impart grit and substance to his characters.
