Warner Bros. Planning a Remake of "The Dirty Dozen"

At first I was completely annoyed when I read the news. Then I heard who was writing the remake, and I felt a little bit better.

It'll be Zak Penn writing the new rendition of "The Dirty Dozen." The screenwriter started out with a "story by" credit on 1993's "Last Action Hero." Since then he's written (or co-written) "PCU," "Inspector Gadget," "Behind Enemy Lines," "X-Men 2," "Suspect Zero," and "X-Men: The Last Stand." He also directed "Incident at Loch Ness" and the upcoming "The Grand."

No word yet on who'll be directing the remake of the 1967 Robert Aldrich classic, but it should be interesting once the casting reports start rolling in. (The original starred Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine, and a whole bunch of colorful jailbirds turned war heroes. Definintely give it a rent if you've never seen it!)

pcu, behind enemy lines, X3, inspector gadget and last action hero. man what a line of classics all worthy of oscars. only X2 is nice but that is also to the redits of the director and the subkect matter.

why does the writer of this article feels somewhat less troubled about this project with this screenwriter?

what a screw up, and please kill this project and just show the original in the cinema.

I will boycott this remake if it is ever made. even if by some chance it gets above 90% on the tomato meter I will still refuse to see it. There aren't enough real men in Hollywood anyways for this movie.

Please, please stop remaking great classical films. If this kind of shite keeps up then one day the inevitable will happen; some producer or producers will think that remaking Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia (complete with Indians playing the role of the Arabs), and CItizen Kane is a gold mine that is untapped.

This was funny the first time I read it but please stop posting it in every Thread concerning a remake.

And even though it is predictable to complain about remakes, I have to say that I am annoyed by this. There are a lot of high-concept low-budget movies out there that could really benefit from the technology of today; remake those. Why are movies like Bullitt and The Dirty Dozen being remade? They're fine as is. Leave them alone. Let's start actually remaking bad movies and see if we can turn them into good movies, eh Hollywood?

Look at the best remakes: The Thing, The Fly, Ocean's Eleven, etc. They worked because they remade SHITTY movies. I don't mind remakes as long as it's possible to improve upon the original. And it's virtually impossible to improve upon Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, and Donald Sutherland, among others.

The original Thing, The Fly and Oceans Eleven were all good movies. What you said didn't make any sense. You better go watch them again. The second half of your comment makes sense. I can't even think of twelve good actors today. And the original Dirty Dozen had more than twelve good actors.
