Richard Kelly & Eli Roth Are Still Getting Into "The Box"
A long-gestating project between "Donnie Darko's" Richard Kelly and "Cabin Fever's" Eli Roth, one that's based on an unpublished story by genre giant Richard Matheson, may finally be getting underway, says Sci-Fi Wire.
"Writer/director Richard Kelly told SCI FI Wire that he's still developing an SF movie called "The Box" with director Eli Roth, based on an unpublished story by Richard Matheson, with an eye to a 2006 start. "We are still just trying to get the script right," Kelly said in an interview on the set of his next movie, "Southland Tales," in Manhattan Beach, Calif., on Sept. 16. "I hope we make it early next year. Eli, I think, he wants to do it next. We're dying to do it. It's just us getting the script just right."
Kelly acquired the rights to Matheson's story, which was turned into an episode of the 1980s TV show "The Twilight Zone" entitled "Button, Button."
The premise of the story is that a financially strapped couple is given a box with a button on top and told that if they push it, they'll immediately receive $200,000, but someone they don't know will die.
Kelly's "Southland Tales" is currently in production with an eye to a 2006 release."
Eli Roth's newest horror flick, "Hostel," just had it North American debut at the Toronto Film Festival.

on Sep 19 2005 01:37 PM Loved that twilight zone That's one of the new twilight zones (80's edition) that I still talk about. I can see how they could stretch it out with character building and suspense. Hope it makes it way to the screen again. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 19 2005 05:02 PM what is kelley thinking He should distance himself at all costs from Eli Roth, a TALENTLESS hack in the worst sense. He fancies himself the saving knight of horror but is laughed at by true horror fans. Cabin Fever was embarassing as a viewer. I'd probably be suicidal had I been responsible for it. Amateurish, inept, laughably scripted, and shot, apparently, by a crew of retarded, blind 12 year olds who decided "dude, it would be cool to make a horror film". Eli Roth should never be allowed NEAR camera equipment in the future. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Sep 20 2005 10:43 PM In reply to this comment (#826053) no it's not that bad. 'cabin fever' wasn't great or anything, but it has it's moments, like a cringe-inducing leg shaving scene and a scene where a guy swallows a harmonica that made me lmao. CB at least tries to be original, where as 'wrong turn' was just another run-of-the-mill stupid slasher flick. (Reply to this) |
