A tired gagfest that is nearly as stupid as its main characters.

This summer, for every outcast who has tried to fit in, comes the prequel to the worldwide hit Dumb & Dumber, which sees the triumphant return of lovable goofballs Harry and Lloyd in an adventure of truly idiotic proportions. From the very beginning, Lloyd Christmas (Eric Christian Olsen) knew he had a friend for life in Harry Dunne (Derek Richardson). It’s the first day of high school and Harry, who previously has been home schooled by his mother (Mimi Rogers), needs someone to show him the ropes. Lloyd, who conveniently lives in the school’s basement with his adoptive dad/school custodian Ray (Luis Guzman), turns out to be just the guy. As the two set out to crack the “big show” (aka high school), they unwittingly fall into the web of the corrupt Principal Collins (Eugene Levy) and his girlfriend, head lunch lady Ms. Heller (Cheri Oteri), who want them to be the first students in a phony “special needs” class in order to bilk $100,000 in grant money for themselves. As Harry and Lloyd enthusiastically venture out to recruit more students for this new class, they unwittingly catch the attention of the beautiful Jessica Matthews (Rachel Nichols), a hard-hitting reporter for the school’s newspaper, who suspects foul play. Trying to help Jessica, while unintentionally ear-deep in the plot themselves, Harry and Lloyd bumble into a shot at greatness when a supreme act of stupidity at the school’s Thanksgiving Day Parade turns the tables on Principal Collins. New Line Cinema presents Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, which takes Harry and Lloyd back to their formative teen years where it all began: 1986 at Providence High School – when Dumb literally ran headfirst into Dumberer. Newcomers Derek Richardson and Eric Christian Olsen inherit the lead roles of Harry and Lloyd, the lovable losers who entertained audiences in New Line Cinema’s 1994 blockbuster hit Dumb & Dumber. The film also features an outstanding comedic ensemble cast featuring Eugene Levy (A Mighty Wind, this Summer’s American Wedding), Rachel Nichols, Cheri Oteri (“Saturday Night Live”), Luis Guzman (Anger Management, Punch Drunk Love), Elden Henson, William Lee Scott (Identity) and Mimi Rogers (Austin Powers International Man of Mystery). Also co-starring is Lin Shaye (There’s Something About Mary), Shia LeBeouf (Holes), Josh Braaten (“Less Than Perfect”), Teal Redmann (“Boston Public”), Julia Duffy, Michelle Krusiec (Daddy Day Care) and Brian Posehn (“Mr. Show”). Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd is directed by Emmy Award-winner Troy Miller (“Mr. Show,” Jack Frost). The screenplay is by Robert Brener and Troy Miller, from a story by Brener. The film is produced by Oren Koules and Charles B. Wessler, Brad Krevoy, Steve Stabler and Troy Miller. The executive producers are Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener, Cale Boyter and Bennett Yellin. Carl Mazzocone serves as co-producer. Some of the key behind-the-scenes talent includes director of photography Anthony Richmond, ASC & BSC (Legally Blonde), art director Paul Huggins (Driving Miss Daisy), costume designer Susanna Puisto (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), editor Lawrence Jordan (Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo), special effects coordinators Charles Belardinelli and Tommy Bellissimo and stunt coordinator Lonnie R. Smith Jr. Eban Schletter composed the score. New Line Cinema will release Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd (rated PG-13 by the M.P.A.A. for “crude and sex-related humor and language”) nationwide on Joon 13th, 2003. [More]

Reviews for Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd
... all the class of a whoopee cushion at a funeral, and far fewer laughs.
Relies on double entendres so obvious they wouldn't get a chuckle from Beavis and Butt-head.
It’s a measure of how far Hollywood has debased itself... and how literally disgusting movies have become that Dumb and Dumberer could barely move me to feel anything... except a kind of listless boredom.
This goof is betterer than you might expect, especially if you run from foreign films, can't understand anything made by David Lynch and have no idea what a third act is.
It really is a shame that such hard-working, talented kids weren't afforded the inspired humor they deserved to riff on.
In its own dumber and dumberer way, it's an honest and often goofily amusing film.
Usually, Hollywood waits until August to empty its cinematic septic tank into multiplexes. This year, the flood has started early. And no movie could be more aptly compared to raw sewage than this film.
It's not unbearably bad, but it truly lives up to its namesake: dumb.
No matter what other aberration comes our way in 2003, there's no way it'll stink as much as 'Dumb and Dumberer'. You've been warned...
The most ill-conceived attempt at extending a franchise since the Pink Panther movie that was stitched together from outtakes after Peter Sellers died.
There is no audience for this film, because retarded monkeys don't have money.
Dumb and Dumber was plenty dumb, but Dumb and Dumberer is much dumbererer.
The humor here is obvious, at best, and the laughs are more groan-inducers than gut-busters.
