WOLFGANG PETERSEN IS NOT PLAYING ENDER'S GAME

Ender's Game, the sci-fi novel by gay hating Mormon dipshit Orson Scott Card, has long been Wolfgang Petersen's go-to for Oh Don Piano comments in interviews. But no more! The producers of the film tell Gawker Media's new nerd blog io9* that Petersen is off, but the development continues apace as they look for a new director. The folks at Chartoff Productions are currently meeting with directors, and they hope to get the movie started in early 2009. They also have some child actors in mind for the role of Ender, but are waiting to pick a director before making any final decisions. Meanwhile, Card has just turned in a new draft of the script, although no one is sure how much anti-gay sentiment the hater has managed to squeeze in.
* Have people weighed in on how bad this blog name is? This is coming from a guy who writes for CHUD, by the way. I was talking to a head of marketing for a major studio recently and he said, 'Great site. But you guys should really change the name.' Hilarious.

Just one more article lifted directly from AICN. Thanks, Owen!

I really loved this book growing up, it's too bad that they are trying to do a live action version that will end up mediocre at best. Not a big anime fan, but I think that style might work best for a movie about children forced into (sort of) adult situations like this, and would allow the story to hold true in terms of the violent acts that take place that will upset the parent groups if Ender is some Disney channel bred kid.

Woo Ender's Game! I'm staying positive that it is going to be radical

Two hours of science-fiction child abuse written by a bigoted religious idiot. What's not to love?

I find it difficult so summon up a sense of umbrage as I willingly choose to come here and read CHUD content daily. I truly enjoy the site. And I fully realize that this your bully pulpit.
That being said, the bias and social commentary is REALLY tiresome. Enders Game and some of the sequels are brilliant books. Instead of focusing on that you comment on the writers supposed hating of gays.
And what was the reason for inclusion of the authors being a Mormon?

@ Josh:
Absolutely! I always sort of assumed the Japanese would get a hold of this and knock it out of the park; they seem to have a knack for these kinds of stories (witness Evangelion). Barring that ideal choice, Petersen wasn't bad (I hear he used to be something of a great director), so now I don't know what to think. Also, on a fairly unrelated note, I'd be willing to provide money and sexual favors for a high-budget anime version of the Vorkosigan Saga. That one is so anime, I can practically see the character designs when I read.

Devin, you're off base with the gay comments. I'm not sure where you get your info, but if you read some of Card's less mainstream work, you'll find that he has written several strong gay characters. The Homecoming Saga certainly comes to mind. What you've done here is close to libel.
Also, Card does not present the actions of the people forcing gifted children to fight in a positive manner. At all. It's considered child abuse in the books. You have just presented a fact as an accusation, like this information had been previously hidden. Read the sequels and you'll understand.
Granted this comes from a unashamed fan of Card's work. I confidently include Speaker For The Dead in my list of top five favorite books.

I hope they don't skimp on the dead kids when they make this.

Must be Mormon week.

Devin's just cranky because he hasn't eaten lately. What's it been, big fella--15 minutes? Devin wanna Twinkie?
Card is actually pretty liberal for a Mormon, though that's like saying a red giant is pretty cool for a star.
Devin, is this an article about a fantastic sci-fi novel finally being made into a film? Or is it a liberal rant against a person with a small amount of fame who happens to hold a non PC opinion? What's next, you going to hate on the Invisibles because Jack Frost does not like poofs?

You guys can be so fucking stupid sometimes. "gay hating Mormon dipshit Orson Scott Card"? Don't agree with the guy's beliefs? jump down his throat and be as dipshitty as you're accusing him of being. "bigoted religious idiot"? Jeeze, it's a wonder I read anything at this conclusion-jumping fool pool. You enlightened fuckers are as hateful as the next guy.

I could care less what this guy believes, he keeps writing the Ender/Bean series, Im going to keep reading...nuff said. I do agree this film would be better done in a more anime style...far too violent to be done live action and not rated at least pg-13

Wow - coming from someone who can barely complete a sentence without saying something vulgar or misogynist,
Devin, Defender of Gay Rights, seems a bit of a stretch. Are you trying to impress someone?

I realy liked Ender's Game. Speaker for the Dead, however, was arse. Pure, unwiped arse.

Who gives a shit about the gay comments, or Mormons for that matter. The real news is that old Wolfie, Champion of Mediocre Action Films, is off Ender's game. So who do we want behind the camera?
My vote is for Aronofsky.

Whether the comment belongs in the article or not, Devin's referring to the openly hateful and anti-gay comments Card made in an interview with Salon a few years back. It's fairly infamous. And Card has defended his views in subsequent interviews (in an interview at Booksense.com among others). He views homosexuality as a religion, which is weird even for a homophobe.

I love how 99% of the time when people have something to say about a Mormon, they do so in a pegorative tone. It really shows ignorance when you say something like "anti-gay, mormon dipshit." How would you like it if I called you a crappy writing whatever the heck you are dipstick. Plug your hole and just write about the book and movie.
Comment #20 (Posted by Bobby Brown)
It's my perogative(hips shaking), I can do what I want to do. I can tell Mormons to eat poo, its my perogative. I can use words in the wrong context too,(hips thrusting) it's my perogative

Tolerance is gay!!!
Oh by the way...........................................................WHY WAS T2 ON THE LIST, did anyone agree it should be there????
"Gay hating Mormon dipshit Orson Scott Card"- Yeah, Card is definitely the one who's a bigot.
Must be a good book right? I've never heard before of Ender's Game being anti gay. Where's all this coming from Devin Faraci? I take it your gay and that's cool, but seriously shut the fuck up. Pull the cock out of your ass and wait for the movie to be made before you start in with the hate. Sounds like you're foaming at the mouth.

"Ender's Game, the sci-fi novel by gay hating Mormon dipshit Orson Scott Card"
This is my first time to this site and I won't be coming back. This article was the kind of poorly written trash I find inscribed on public bathroom stalls. I suppose that this is some sort of sounding board for 'enlightened' writers who hide their hate and their bigotry behind the mask of intellectualism, 'prerogatives,' or free speech. Grow up.

i am a mormon and i can say that i am the most liberal person i know, even more so than my gay best friend. but i love the stereotyping on this site. keep it up!

Heh...loser...so who is the hater now? Anyone who might hold an opinion different than yours (and one which is overwhelmingly the more popular worldwide, despite what our benevolent media would have us believe) immediately earns petty and mean comments. Start being open to the beliefs of others if you want them to do the same for you....prick

I'd never heard of Orson Scott Card before reading this article, but just some cursory research has made me think that the article's author, while not exactly subtle, was pretty accurate with his comment on Card. There's allowing differing viewpoints, and there's condemning those who preach hate. There was a time when it was considered alright to think of black people as sub-human. Sure, P.C. people condemned them for it, but it was simply a differing viewpoint, after all.

Thanx for the heads up, Devin. I just read OSC's article and wow! I wasn't aware he was that extreme of a douche. It's good to know. Screw the rest of these posters. It's totally relevant. Great article.
Please, can we have more of the "zomg Devin, but, but, it's bigoted to hate bigotry!!!" claptrap. Also, we need more people coming to comment on their hobby of transcribing bathroom stall social commentary and most certainly closeted Mormon 'liberals' who don't seem to know jack shit about their own history and call out their 'best friends' like a Colbert minority picture pose. Rock on Dev.
Okay Devin you've gone into ACIN territory now with the gay-bashing mormon remark. If you ever want yourself to be taken seriously as a journalist (which CHUD tries to do) then cut it with the poorly constructed and bigoted commentary. If not then you can continue to be in the same area as Harry or those other guys from ACIN.
This is why most people don't take the web seriously.
Look, call him a bigot if you really want to, but don't call him a dipshit. Remember, Scott-Card is one of the greatest authors of the last twenty years, and you write for a website called Chud.

Unbelievable! This was my first visit to this site and this is what's offered? I've never read any of these books so I can't defend them from that stance but a bigot is a bigot and Devin Faraci is as bad as his accusations. He obviously hates mormons and religion. This is not a site a will visit for info again.
I really enjoyed Enders Game -I read it twice. At first I thought Faraci's "gay loving mormon" comments were pretty stupid throw-away remarks, but I've since done some research and my admiration for Card is badly shaken by finding out about his stance on homosexuality (as well as the war on terror, and climate change). And it's also clear that his homophobic views are directly connected to his religious views and those of Mormon leaders like Thomas S. Monson. I thought I was reading Locke, but then Card turns out to be Demosthenes after all. Great...Will be hard enjoy reading Card again...
