Any New Progress on a Family Guy Movie?
Seth McFarlane gives an update.
Any die-hard Family Guy fan already has the made-for-video semi-movie (Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story) on their DVD shelf -- and it's a pretty funny flick. But when will we get to see the Griffin family on the big screen?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, we won't be seeing the Family Guy movie any time real soon -- but series creator Seth MacFarlane admits that there has been some talk on the topic: "We have been trying to figure out how to do that and the series at the same time without the series suffering." Which is sort of the same thing the Simpsons producers have been saying for years. Heck, even the South Park guys said it.
But being that Family Guy is one of Fox's most profitable properties, it seems only logical that a movie version would show up sooner or later. To hear MacFarlane say it, fans will be waiting at least two years or so. (As long as the show is still funny, I can be patient.)

on Jul 23 2007 12:15 PM The quality of Family Guy has definitely dropped since it returned. For a show that blatantly ripped off The Simpsons in so many ways, it sure didn't take a very long time to have the same problems that current Simpsons episodes have. Mainly, I'm referring to smalltime characters being used in almost every single episode (Disco Stu in The Simpsons and the perverted old man in Family Guy jump out the most). This use lowers the hilarity of the characters. I'm not a Family Guy hater. But the DVD movie was not that good. It just didn't work. (Reply to this) |

They also need to reduce the number of times Peter says "This is just like the time I . . .. . on Jul 23 2007 03:54 PM The last season of Family Guy was horrible. It had a few great moments but they're so spread out that it doesn't even matter. I could go on and on about why the new episodes are so bad but that'd take forever so I'll simplify it -- MacFarlane needs to stop all these new projects and focus on Family Guy, then go back and watch the first few seasons to research what made them so great. If it becomes funny again, THEN they can consider making a movie. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 23 2007 04:02 PM I used to LOVE family guy. I watched it religiously from the time it aired through all three of its cancelations on fox, and when it reappeared on adult swim and later on DVD I watched em all over and over again. That being said, I think the show just hasn't been the same since it came back. It's too redundant, moralistic, and just doesn't have the edge that made it so great to begin with. There was a time I thought it was the greatest show in years. Now, most of the episodes are pretty forgettable. Then again maybe South Park just ruined it for me. Magic tricks aren't as impressive when you know how they're done. Horrible analogy I know but it kinda makes sense. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 23 2007 04:12 PM The pre-cancellation series was definitely more consistantly funny than the post-cancellation series (which is not to say the latter doesn't have its moments). I seriously question whether the show will hold up for another 2 years considering its present downhill cline. The trend seems to be making a movie of a given cartoon series after the creators have run out of material (the Simpsons hasn't been worth watching for several years, and started a steep downhill decline almost a decade ago).
