Seth MacFarlane Wants Family Guy Movie Musical

Seth MacFarlane recently stated he wants to make a Family Guy feature film, but now we have even more. MacFarlane's told us what genre he wants the Family Guy movie to occupy.

"I would like to do a Family Guy movie at some point, MacFarlane said, "I'd like it to be a musical."

Does that mean MacFarlane writes music? "I do. I play the piano. I can't orchestrate but we have two wonderful composers, one of whom used to orchestrate for Doc Severinsen's orchestra on the Carson show."

The only hold-up to a Family Guy movie is the Family Guy show. "It'd be great if we could do it within the next few years. The challenge is finding the time to do it while we're doing a TV series because you don't want the TV series to suffer."

The Simpsons finally did their movie while the show is still running, but MacFarlane sees another TV model worth following. "Star Trek: The Next Generation did it perfectly. They did seven seasons, then they did four movies."

Family Guy begins its sixth season (which will also contain its 100th episode) on September 23.

Family Guy can still be funny at times but the show did a nose dive in quality. I've been watching King of the Hill and Home Movies and they are both far better than many of the episodes in the last couple of seasons of family guy. Way too many cheap and stupid jokes. The music scenes are usually good in Family Guy but now I'm not really looking toward a Family Guy movie. A few years ago yes but not now.

Family guy's still funny, the show may have gone a little wierd but i still laugh out loud while i watch it every week. Which is more than i can say for most of the wank that passes for comedy on TV.
I say bring on a film, I'd watch it.

The one thing Family Guy was ever consistant about was the musicals, which Seth McFarlane writes does well (he did that musical School House Rock-esque episode of Johnny Bravo). Evem though I think the series has completely degenerated, I think a movie musical could honestly be pretty good. At the very least better than the *other* Family Guy movie.

I wouldn't say Family Guy has dropped in quality, although they definately have been overusing the "manatee" gags instead of funnier dialogue within the show.
The American Dad second season, on the other hand, has been great. I'd rather see an American Dad movie. Stephen Colbert should guest star as Jon Stewart.

Family Guy def got weirder since they were revived from cancellation, but it kind of makes sense that they would buck further from the sitcom formula after surviving the can. what have they got to lose. And since even the classic first 3 seasons were hit and miss anyway, i don't see it as "dip in quality." A shift in tone maybe. I still laugh. A lot.

Family Guy isn't nearly as funny as it used to be. In fact American Dad is funnier now. Hopefully Seth can find a way to restore Family Guy to it's former glory before diving into a feature film.

Saying that, the numbers in the show always bothered me - I've never been a fan of the show-tunes style they always mimic. I kinda doubt my opinion would change with the movie.

Family Guy should have stayed canceled; it would have been remembered as a better cartoon if it had.. at least to me.

.. and I really doubt it could top the South Park movie. Homer Simpson is hands down funnier than Peter Griffin.

I'm sure it'll get made eventually, and it could turn out to be pretty good too, but I'm on the "why bother" boat.

family guy is not funnier than south park and simpsons. peter griffin is stupid. i was so happy when they cancelled the show. then they brought it back. now there is going to be a movie. at least south park has the balls to push the envelope and be outragous. family guy can't do that. i guess you didn't see the episode on south park making fun of family guy with the manatees. that one episode was funnier than any season of family guy. there i said it.

I would go- The Simpsons, South Park, King of the Hill, Family Guy, Futurama, American Dad. But these threads have been done tons of times before. My parents used to like Family Guy but now they think its horrible. I do like the FCC song a lot but really lets be honest I dont see how anyone can say Family Guy has kept high standards since the first few seasons.

I still enjoy Family Guy, but hated the straight to DVD movie, and am not interested in a musical film. I don't see how people can think American Dad is funnier. I personally can't bring myself to watch American Dad, it's so painfully nonfunny that it is akward and embarassing.

'Your' opinion may be that Family Guy is funnier than both The Simpsons and South Park; and there are many people that would agree with you AND THAT'S FINE. But there are also many, like myself, who don't. Family Guy WAS funny once upon a time, but in MY opinion its lost its edge. The "manatee" jokes (which they are now referred to thanks to South Park) have gotten old, and save a gag here and there everything they've tried is a mere shadow of the pre-canceled episodes.

Peter was/is heavily influenced off Homer Simpson. I'll always take Homer over Peter. Homer was the first, Peter is an idiotic clone of him (which is certainly saying something).

If you haven't noticed, people do take comedy seriously. If it isn't making you laugh, if you aren't enjoying it, there's a problem. Obviously you're still enjoying Family Guy so good for you, but PERSONALLY, I'm not enjoying Family Guy anymore and I use to.

That is a problem (and again, there are many out there who agree with me), one which creators of a given show take very seriously.

Comedy is fun and wonderful and swell - but its also a business.

Has Family Guy dipped in quality? I don't really think so. It became a little too overexposed for a while, but that's died down. It also became popular with mainstream audiences, which hardcore fans of a show HATE (it makes them feel less special, even though they were never special to begin with). Then there's the common "the old stuff was better' argument that's applied to TV shows, movies, books, ect. Sometimes it's true, but most of the time it really isn't.

Personally, I don't regularly watch Family Guy these days, but when I do catch it I don't see much difference from the first few seasons. If anything, pop culture was more interesting back then, as compared to today's culture and their obsession with "stars" like Paris Hilton. I don't watch The Simpsons (I want to see the movie, though) or South Park either. With The Simpsons, they've pretty much did everything and with South Park, the show became far too preachy and only presents a black and white view of the world. That's just my opinion, but I think it's very relevant. I'm into the more semi and non-mainstream animated shows right now.

Apples and oranges really (and kiwi's while we're at it). South park has that great combination of satire and crude humor, Family Guy is a show of hilarious jokes and scenes compiled by a loose plot, and The Simpsons (at least seasons 1-10) had well written and witty dialogue that satired society.
