New "Fantastic Four" Image: See the Silver Surfer!

We'll cut to the chase: read on to see the first image of the Silver Surfer himself from "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer!"

Peep the first shot of the "Fantastic Four 2" good guy/bad guy, who actor Doug Jones confirmed to RT is not, repeat not, a CGI creation (although the folks over at 20th Century Fox are obviously putting some digital wizards to work on him):

Just like The Thing, the Silver Surfer won't just be the muscle suit. "I would be remiss if I said it's just that. 20th Century Fox really is spending a lot of money putting together the very best visual effects done by Weta with the very best practical effects done by Spectral Motion to create a look that is really going to stun you on film. He is absolutely, I'm not kidding. He's stunningly gorgeous."

As you "Fantastic" fans already know, the sequel to 2005's comic book adaptation will see the cosmically-enhanced Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing encountering the planet-hopping Silver Surfer and his evil employer, Galactus.

And if you want an early peek at Jessica Alba & Co. back in spandex, you can see the "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" trailer in theaters this weekend playing with "Night at the Museum."

"Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer" will blast into theaters June 15, 2007.

The Thing, in that horrendous suit, will look pretty silly next to that CGI-enhanced Silver Surfer. I hope they just go CGI on the Thing. He really looks terrible.

Alex Ross should sue
So... does Hollywood count motion capture as CGI? Also...

The picture is obviously CGI enhanced. It looks too clean to be live action. I think Doug Jones is smoking something when he thinks SS won't be 99% CG.

I saw Night at the Museum. The trailer for FF2 was pretty cool. It was basically just the Torch chasing the Surfer. He looked great. Hopefully this franchise will be like X-Men and just get better over time. Night at teh Museum was ok.

I agree, the SS looks great but just seeing that picture of the Thing keeps me from wanting to see it- he looks terrible- the Thing is supposed to be big- he looks smaller than Reed Richards- what an awful choice that was to put him in that suit. How can I take a movie seriously when the Thing looks that silly. He is more suited for Saturday Morning cartoons.

As stupid as this looks, it can't possibly be any worse than the first movie was, and yeah, there better be a major overhaul of the Thing, he looked so bad in part 1.

They should have got Roger Corman to do the costume for the thing. His movie was a steaming pile of crap, but the Thing didn't look to bad, and they couldn't have spent more than 50 bucks on it. Just think what he could do with a real budget. Only half-joking :)

Heavens no! If we want this franchise to get better, and I'm sure we all do, then the X:Men film franchise is by far not a good model. And neither is Batman, while we're at it. Took them five movies to get Batman right. Took em three to destroy the integrity of the X:Men mythology. Spiderman might be the best example so far of a comic book film franchise improving with each installment. So let's hope, if anything, they do like Spiderman.
