Five Favourite Films with Greg Kinnear
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory
"It's one of the great endings to a movie ever when Willy asks Charlie what happened to the little boy who got everything he ever wanted. "You don't know? He lived happily ever after!" And then the glass elevator breaks through the glass roof. It's incredible. I worked briefly on a television show with Mel Stuart, the director, and heard all sorts of fantastic stories about that remarkable film. And of course I knew all the songs - I still do. I have a 5-year-old, but I haven't shown it to her yet. It's kind of scary - that guy who shows up with the little shopping carriage and makes that little speech about how nobody who goes in ever comes out. And the Oompa Loompas. And that boat ride - woo, acid trip!"
Flash of Genius opens in UK cinemas this week. It is on DVD in the US and in cinemas in Australia.

on Mar 17 2009 04:30 PM An excellent list, Chinatown and North by Northwest are in my top 10, from an under-rated actor. I like how he seemningly plays similar roles but from 'Little Miss Sunshine' to 'The Matador' to 'Auto-Focus' the similarity is only superficial and he takes that typical Kinnear character, The 'All-American good guy', to some dark places. on Mar 17 2009 05:38 PM Funny, I didn't know he started as the host of Talk Soup. Pretty cool list. By the way, if no one has seen Flash of Genius yet, be sure to check it out. Bob Kearns' story is totally interesting and enthralling and Greg Kinear, as usual, does an amazing job of portraying the inventor of the intermittent wind- shield wiper. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 20 2009 07:40 AM I met Greg Kinnear at a small restaurant in Panama City. While I was hesitant to approach him, it turned out he is the nice guy you see in the movies. Very friendly and approachable. He's also a great actor who doesn't pick the easy roles. And anyone who likes the Original Willy Wonka is a friend of mine. I watch it at least once a year.
