Big dumb fun, for sure, but not big and clever.

The makers of this sluggish, by-the-numbers action pic couldn't even be bothered to exploit the obvious angles.

Scripter Preston A. Whitmore II and helmer Kevin Hooks are obviously well-versed in film lore, for they have concocted a hodgepodge that recycles elements from several white-black team movies.

Most of non-action scenes are dead serious, and in those moments Fled becomes unbearably cliched and tedious.

A generic buddy-buddy actioner that's not as slick as it thinks it is...pointless and forgettable

The situations are so ludicrous and the screenplay so barren of wit that the best it can come up with in the way of jokey humor is to have the characters compare their adventures to scenes in other movies.

On the plus side, at least for this type of effort, there is a new type of Chinese torture, tampon bandages, numerous film trivia allusions, bullets through peepholes, lots of women as strippers (Oh, not again!!), and a fine soundtrack produced by wunderk

Despite all efforts by its notable cast, the film suffers from an incohesive plot that tries to provide drama, action and comedy only to lose focus and fail to accomplish any of its aims.

On the whole, Baldwin seems pretty dim for a renowned cyber-anarchist. Also, he simply isn't in the same class of actor as Tony Curtis. Or Laurence Fishburne, who swaggers through this mess with his usual suave manliness.

A successful summer diversion, the kind of film you start forgetting the moment it's over but is fun while you're watching it.
