Reflecting on nude scenes of the ‘80s entries...there was a lot less silicone back then. The two in Freddy Vs. Jason, while lovely, look like extras from nip/tuck.

The film begins with a quick recap of both Freddy and Jason's "lives," underscoring their respective motivations to kill and their distinct weaknesses. Freddy (Robert Englund) explains that the present children of Elm St. (including Monica Keena, Jason Ritter, Katherine Isabelle, and Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child) have no memory of him, and if they don't know he exists, he can't enter their dreams to kill them. Ingeniously, he reaches out to Jason (Ken Kirzinger), the brutish death machine from Camp Crystal Lake, to go on an Elm Street killing spree, hoping a lot of gory murder will jog the town's memory. Jason is up to the task, quickly dispensing with teenager after teenager in suburban homes, cornfields, medical labs and, of course, the forest. Freddy grows jealous over Jason's body count, and so must intervene, setting off a battle royale between the two highly adored slasher heroes across dreamworlds and realities. In another post-modern twist, a character seemingly modeled after Jay from Kevin Smith's films appears in the movie, adding both a comedic element and another level of reality vs. fiction. FREDDY VS. JASON employs a variety of special effects to update these undying series, not the least of which is uniting their once disparate stories. [More]

Reviews for Freddy vs. Jason
Wittier than your average horror movie, smarter than your average horror movie, and much stranger than your average horror movie.
The fight is really cool when it finally comes, but it takes an hour and change to get through the undercards.
The best bits do eventually overshadow the interminable slow spots, and I'd certainly never be one to dissuade the faithful from seeing these two immortals duke it out on the big screen.
Though not exactly John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, star-power marquee teaming is about all Freddy vs. Jason has.
Just a slam-bang succession of gross-out mutilations, played for giggles.
Once the novelty wears off, the latest movie feels just like every other -- an unrepentant gorefest with little personality or flavor.
It's more marketing concept than aesthetic, and problems inherent in both series -- like the fact the villains are indestructible -- are only multiplied.
Fans of the two series will laugh, because the genre is so squarely skewered. Others will wonder what the big deal is, having seen King Kong vs. Godzilla, Mothra vs. Rodan and any number of sitcom weddings.
Pitting the bad guys against each other merely recycles all the shtick we've seen before.
It is downright depressing to think about all that vigorous cinematic artistry and expertise aimed so low.
A goofy but occasionally fun novelty that's more enjoyable than it has any right to be.
While the filmmakers send up the genre's cliches and expected audience empathy with the villains, it still feels like the ludicrous dialogue and one-dimensional characterizations were written by teenagers.
A horror fan's wet bloodfest with an outrageous story line and plenty of laughs.
Other than Freddy, there are no memorable performances, just interchangeable busty, pouty-lipped girls and drunk high school guys who scream and run and get gutted like fish.
