Future Looks Bright for "Futurama"
by Scott Weinberg | January 27, 2006
Discuss Article
The hilariously talented voice actor Billy West keeps in close contact with his fans via message board, and he recently divulged one HECK of a cool piece of news. Seems that the whole cast & crew are being united to create not two, not three, but FOUR all-new direct-to-video "Futurama" movies, which (if you've ever seen the show) you just know is fantastic news.

The precise postings of Mr. West are as follows:

"HERE'S GREAT NEWS!
Here's the official word on Futurama!! David X. phoned me about an hour ago and said that this Futurama project is a done deal! Here's the word from DX--- There are 4 DVD movies that we'll start recording at the end of July or August. Full feature length FUTURAMA movies. Everybody is excited to get back together--as I am!

Into the Future,
Billy"

--

"David X" is, of course, David X. Cohen, longtime producer and frequent commentator on the "Futurama" DVDs, which (in my opinion) are worth their weight in Slurm.

Plus this bodes well for direct-to-video movies in general. Why? Because with the original "Futurama" cast & crew on board, you're all but guaranteed a superior product. Frankly this is the best movie news I've heard all year.

Glad to see its not making its way back on the tele. Straight to DVD is the way so that we can keep this a cult classic.

It makes sense. The Futurama DVD sales did rather well. With Four DVD Movies and the Sales of those you can expect the Return to the Cartoon Network, COmedy Central or Fox. I Take it that this could happen to Arrested Development. You never can tell. Too bad the Critic, Greg the Bunny and Undeclared Can't come back. Oh well. A man can dream..........A man Can Dream..................................Hey maybe on of the futurama movies will have a What IF Machine story line.................Oh and don't forget the audio commentaries.........Love those too..........Do the Bender............Oh yeah.........Bring Back Barbadios Slims.

Good News Everyone!
do you think, since they're 'movies' that we'll see a slightly higher budget than normal for the animation? not that the animation wasn't good or anything, but you know what i mean? when cartoon's release a straight to dvd movie sometimes the animation is a little better and more grandiose and whatnot...guess that doesn't really matter. but i'd like to see these done right. i hope it focuses on some cool stories, (and not trying to cram in all our favourite characters from each episode, and certainly not a sappy love story of fry and lela, which if you've seen those last couple of episodes you know what i mean...)
and can we stop wondering about whether or not this is coming back to television? cause c'mon...of course it is. there's a ton of money to be made here, and the execs only need to look at the success of family guy. this show is just as popular. why create some new cartoon that might not be as popular as futurama when futurama is right there ready with a big fat fanbase, endless possibilities for storylines, and bringing back cartoons is suddenly an 'ok' if not downright 'cool' thing to do?
they'll make these movies, they'll bring back the show, and all we need to do is sit back, thank god, the robot devil, and the cartoon network.

I'm a little disappointed with family guy. It's not as good as I remembered.
