Consensus: Bizarre and clumsily plotted, Gigli is a mess. As for its stars, Affleck and Lopez lack chemistry.

In Gigli, Martin Brest’s (Scent of a Woman, Midnight Run) unconventional romantic comedy, Larry Gigli (Ben Affleck), a low-level hood is given a high-level assignment to kidnap Brian (Justin Bartha), the psychologically challenged younger brother of a powerful federal prosecutor to help save a mob boss from going to prison. Hiding out in his one-bedroom apartment with Brian, Gigli is shocked when Ricki (Jennifer Lopez), a gorgeous, free-spirited female enforcer is sent to assist him because his boss thinks he’s likely to screw up. And from that moment on, Gigli’s world is turned upside down. Gigli finds himself falling in love with the unavailable Ricki and goes to extreme lengths to win her affection. The more she resists, the stronger the attraction becomes. By letting their feelings get in the way of business, Gigli and Ricki set in motion an unlikely chain of events that just could endanger their plans for a long-term relationship – and their lives. Imagine a movie made up entirely of Deleted Scenes...Not since Travolta and Tomlin in 1978’s Moment By Moment has a love scene been this embarrassing or uncomfortable.

Writer-director Martin Brest delivers what amounts to be a dreadfully uneven mob dramedy that has more holes in it than an aging pot-bellied gangster riddled with the hail of a wayward semi-automatic’s bullets.

Its few moments of hilarity aren't enough to overcome a badly miscaculated premise and mostly horrid dialogue.

The truth of the matter is that Gigli is not a good movie, but it also isn’t any worse than a lot of movies that Hollywood puts out in any given year.

This isn't a good film, but, when set alongside the likes of Dumb and Dumberer and Legally Blonde 2, Jen & Ben offer less pain.

It’s a trainwreck of a film. . .too little substance, too long in the telling, and too bad too many opportunities were squandered in its making. . .

Ben has amazing powers - he has twice accomplished the impossible: He turned two lesbians straight! First in Chasing Amy and now in Gigli. This man is a Sapphic SARS virus! At this rate, by 2089 it will be the end of overalls as we know them, and the

All things considered, and in spite of nearly every potential cinematic pitfall you can think of, the film delivers a satisfying, endearing romance and is one of the better of La Lopez’s oeuvre.

Martin Brest has never made a movie that couldn't have been improved by removing 15 or 20 minutes and his new film, Gigli, is no exception.

In what may go down as the most embarrassing, imprudent attempt at sexy dialogue in the history of cinema... Lopez ask(s) to be orally pleasured with the line, "Turkey time! Gobble, gobble."

Gigli is precisely as awful as everyone's been saying, and it's a sad state of affairs when a 2+ hour parade of self-adoration can pass for an actual movie.

It is an exquisitely bad movie: One to be savoured, marvelled over, shared with friends and generally appreciated in a state of awestruck wonder. Gourmet fromage.
