LordVapor writes: on Jun 04 2008 06:30 AM You tell em Ben. I thought it was a good movie, and that the interview was done nicely as well. Nice Job. (Reply to this) |

TombstoneLawDog writes: on Jun 04 2008 07:15 AM I respect him all the more for having the savvy to 're-invent' himself on his own terms. I'm curious to see how his next directorial effort turns out. (Reply to this) |

thereign writes: on Jun 04 2008 07:31 AM I'm with you there, TombstoneLawDog! I absolutely LOVED Gone Baby Gone, thought it was just brilliant! It's ignited so many discussions between myself and my friends and coworkers about what we would have done in the detective's situation with the kid...it's nice to have a movie come out that inspires such debate! I can't wait to see what Ben does next as a director--I will definitely plunk down money for a ticket! (Reply to this) |

tomwaitsjr writes: on Jun 04 2008 08:35 AM Yah, good director.I loved Gone Baby Gone, But bad choice of films. Hollywoodland was horrible, as were a few others. Maybe he should let his friend Damon pick roles for him. (Reply to this) |

jokerboy1991 writes: on Jun 04 2008 08:52 AM Yeah Gone Baby Gone was great. (Reply to this) |

brentknudson311 writes: on Jun 04 2008 09:22 AM Ben's problem is that he is terrible at picking movies to act in. He's a fine actor, but he just doesn't pick the right projects. Gone Baby gone was easily one of the best movies of last year. (Reply to this) |

Iamremote01 writes: on Jun 04 2008 09:53 AM Robbed for an oscar nod. Awesome job Ben. After Hollywoodland and then this, I will be watching your career. (Reply to this) |

AlbertBrodsky writes: on Jun 04 2008 10:01 AM I liked "Hollywoodland". Ben's performance was excellent even if the filler material was a little stale. The guy is a great interview as well, because he knows what he's talking about most the time. From watching Project Greenlight and misc. interviews like Jimmy Kimmel, I really like the guy. Knowing that Gone Baby Gone is by the same author of Mystic River, I just haven't gotten myself to watch it. I'm afraid it will be too depressing, especially for someone with kids. (Reply to this) |

AlbertBrodsky writes: on Jun 04 2008 10:03 AM All that said, Daredevil was still a pure stink-fest. (Reply to this) |

Darkness My Old Friend writes: on Jun 04 2008 10:30 AM When I was 6 years old CT Granville was my absolute number one hero. Glad to see Ben shaking the mantle of Underachieving Hollywood Star finally. (Reply to this) |
|
GelflingJen writes: on Jun 04 2008 10:49 AM Gone Baby Gone was a great movie. Casey Affleck shined. I think Ben is a good actor, remember Boiler Room; Dazed and Confused? He has just done some baaaad movies. (Reply to this) |
|
rt_hire_me writes: on Jun 04 2008 10:50 AM It would be nice if he could get specific about times as an actor where he felt that staightjacket, times where he felt like he was being set up for a fall. Much of the dialogue in Daredevil is that way, so are scenes from Jersey Girl (especially that emotional one by the crib), and Pearl Harbor was ludicrous. But awesome interview, and even though he couldn't get specific and risk throwing mud at other directors, big kudos for being honest and candid. (Reply to this) |

halose7en writes: on Jun 04 2008 11:39 AM In reply to this comment (#1773135) I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to as far as Affleck being in a straightjacket while filming that particular scene in Jersey Girl. I thought that scene was fantastic, and he did a great job with it. I don't think he was being limited at all by Kevin Smith - he took his role in the direction that it needed to go in to further the story, and to help his character evolve too. It was very well done, and in no way do I think that he was too limited in what he could've done there. It was perfect. (Reply to this) |

Oskarbste writes: on Jun 04 2008 11:46 AM What chu talkin bout, Affleck? (Reply to this) |

nogard46 writes: on Jun 04 2008 12:12 PM In reply to this comment (#1773228) haha I know talk about a huge disconnect with the real world. besides RT i don't think anyones even heard of Gone Baby Gone or the fact that Ben Affleck Direceted something. oh well. (Reply to this) |
|
oyguvaltshappy writes: on Jun 04 2008 01:50 PM it stinks that he got a lot of bad publicity for a while, because his work on films like "Good Will Hunting," "Hollywoodland," and especially "Gone Baby Gone" shows that he knows what he's doing. He did such a good job with GBG that I hope he directs more often in the future. (Reply to this) |

tomwaitsjr writes: on Jun 04 2008 04:00 PM You have to admit, his brother is by far the better actor. (Reply to this) |

someonewhoisdead writes: on Jun 04 2008 04:27 PM I love to hate rich, popular, or good looking people. It makes me feel so much better about my mediocre self. (Reply to this) |

nogard46 writes: on Jun 04 2008 10:01 PM In reply to this comment (#1773691) I love to worship rich, popular, or good looking people, because we all know nothing else matters, not intelligence, not talent, not skill, if you are rich, popular, good looking, that means you are better than me and I have to listen and enjoy everything you do like you are god's gift to the world. (Reply to this) |

Mr. & Mrs. B writes: on Jun 05 2008 07:37 AM Gone Baby Gone was a great movie. It truly shows that Ben Affleck is really talented. On the other hand I guess I am one of the few that liked Daredevil (Director's Cut anyways). I thought it was a good movie that stayed true to the comics. I have also liked a lot of his other films, call me crazy I guess. (Reply to this) |

Bigbrother writes: on Jun 05 2008 08:52 AM In reply to this comment (#1773656) I think that probably depends on what kinda movie your making Tom, While Casey has undoubtedly been fantastic in these smaller release(Just coming out in the UK this week) pictures playing interesting characters, Ben has shown a much wider range as an actor doing Comedies (Mallrats, Dazed and Confused, Dogma), Big budget actioners (Armageddon, Sum of All Fears, Daredevil), and serious drama's (Good Will Hunting, Hollywoodland, School Ties(Remember that one? "Come face me you COWARDS!!!!" Brenden Frasers most shining dramatic moment, but I digress)...and sometimes he made Reindeer games, but can't we forgive him for that? (Reply to this) |

spitting into the wind writes: on Jun 05 2008 09:36 AM Personally, I think Gone Baby Gone was the best film of the year. Fantastic (Reply to this) |

tomwaitsjr writes: on Jun 05 2008 10:27 AM Good point, Big Brother. I guess I'm a snob. I don't consider anything done in a Michael Bay film "acting." (Reply to this) |

mibtp writes: on Jun 05 2008 06:20 PM I was actually at the VARIETY screening of the film Gone Baby Gone. They had a Q&A with Ben and cast afterwards. Quite a few people were upset at the ending. Some called Ben on the carpet. But he handled it with grace. I have been to quite a few of these and this is the first one that had such an engaging back and forth between the filmmakers and audience. The film sparked heated discussions. Should have been nominated for best picture in my opinion. BEN, LOOKING FOR YOUR NEXT PROJECT?--> I'm a WGA writer with another engaging SCRIPT! It's won 1st place in a major screenplay competition. It's a thriller. The story centers on an attorney known for his unassailable ethics accused of murder and embezzlement. Written in the vein of The Fugitive, Presumed Innocent and Michael Clayton. It has a surprise twist ending. Want to read it? RT has my email address. I know it's crazy to post a pitch here. But why not? Patrice (Reply to this) |

HopscotchGirl writes: on Jun 06 2008 09:58 AM I think Ben is a good actor, just as good as his brother. But they "do" two different things on film. I think everyone, including the critics, are just jealous of Ben, smart sexy meathead that he is. I can't wait to see Ben again. (Reply to this) |

Bigbrother writes: on Jun 06 2008 10:48 AM In reply to this comment (#1774666) Yeah, not a tremendous Bay fan, but I have liked some of his work Armageddon and The Rock mainly. I just loved the supporting cast and when Bruce says "Dig, dig, chew this iron ***** up" my inner caveman kicks in and I just want to listen to Metallica and punch something. (Reply to this) |
|
Bigbrother writes: on Jun 06 2008 10:49 AM In reply to this comment (#1774666) To your initial assertion though, Casey did have almost as big a part acting wise in Good Will Hunting as Ben and the Ocean's movie showed his comic side. Give him a few years and he probably WILL outshine big brother. (Reply to this) |
|
tomwaitsjr writes: on Jun 06 2008 11:28 AM "Written in the vein of The Fugitive, Presumed Innocent and Michael Clayton." I don't have a problem with people making pitches whenever they get a chance. I'm just curious if you could please elaborate more? I understand the tone is similar in these 3 films, but there are some huge huge differences. What is the occupation of your protaganist? I have yet to see Ben affleck in a role where I thought to myself "Wow. Ben totally owned that role! I can't see anybody else in that role. . ." But Casey Affleck totally owned his role in Gone Baby Gone, and Assasination of Jesse James. . ." I think the team of Affleck directing Affleck can be a good one to watch for the next few decades. As the press continues to leave Ben Affleck alone, at least in comparison to the Gigli/Lopez nonsense, more people will come to like him or at least be neutral towards him. I think the press stalking Ben Affleck turned people off by all the publicity. ANyway, I'm rambling. (Reply to this) |

tomwaitsjr writes: on Jun 06 2008 02:20 PM Oh, and "Paycheck" is one of the 100 worst big budget films ever made. (Reply to this) |
