Synopsis: Just when they thought they were safe, young sweethearts Billy (Zach Galligan) and Kate (Phoebe Cates) from Joe Dante's GREMLINS have moved on to the Big Apple, landed jobs in a high-tech office... Just when they thought they were safe, young sweethearts Billy (Zach Galligan) and Kate (Phoebe Cates) from Joe Dante's GREMLINS have moved on to the Big Apple, landed jobs in a high-tech office park, and have met up with Gizmo once again. When a series of accidents creates a whole new generation of Gremlins, the three pals must use everything they know to prevent another comic catastrophe. The monsters wreck havoc at Clamp Industries, the "smart building" where Billy and Kathy work, creating madness and mayhem for the Donald Trump-like owner, Daniel Clamp (John Glover), who sees the invasion as yet another opportunity for media attention. But, when the monsters invade "Splice of Life," the top-secret genetics laboratory housed at Clamp Industries, the Gremlins develop new genetically altered powers that make them even harder to destroy. This highly inventive sequel to GREMLINS, successfully combines wicked horror and dark humor in an outrageous and eerily realistic post modern setting. [More]

Reviews for Gremlins 2 - The New Batch
Less scary than the original, but much funnier -- though the theatrical version has a scene with Hulk Hogan that's unwisely replaced by one of John Wayne on the video.
Everything that was original in the first Gremlins -- the plot, the gags, the wacky array of monsters and the cute, little furball Gizmo -- is simply rehashed in this sequel that simply does not live up to its predecessor.
Clever sequel gets just a bit too snarky for its own good here and there ... but overall this is a seriously fun flick.
It must be said that there are many big laughs, but it's also important to note that this is less a cohesive movie than a fragmented series of bizarre sketches with even more bizarre characters.
A devilishly, hysterically, cacklingly, subversively funny picture that builds and builds until it literally self-destructs.
For a good hour it's less like a wild-spirited comedy than a '60s Disney film with Dean Jones or Fred MacMurray.
How can one take a movie seriously that doesn't take itself seriously?
As rationales for sequels go, this one is about par for being crass and high concept.
