Reviews
It's surefire entertainment: loopy and predictable, but tremendously likable.
A by-the-numbers ensemble dramedy that hits every underdog and gay-fish- out-of-water cliche on the nose.
Hormann provides a light enough touch to make the proceedings palatable, if not quite enjoyable.
It sounds like gay porn, but it's actually a delightful romantic comedy from Germany.
If there's a gay cliche who doesn't flounce through this feel-good German comedy, he must have been out of town when the casting call went out, but its fundamental good nature is tough to resist.
With commendable literalness, the makers of the German soccer comedy Guys and Balls have settled on a title as cheerfully unsubtle as every one of the film's jokes.
Though it does elicit some laughs, we've seen this story of over-achieving underdogs too many times.
Guys and Balls is an inventory of such cliches, but at least they’re trotted out with a modicum of proficiency.
This jubilant, exhilarating film works like a wonder tonic. It's as captivating as they come, by its very definition a big, fat, fantastic crowd pleaser.
The sexuality of the protagonists is just another plot twist in this mildly funny sports comedy that never seems to accept its characters as people rather than cliches.
