But when he gets an assignment with law firm Schuyler & Mitchell and he is asked to go permanent as a secretary for mysterious lawyer Bob Shelby, he finds that it just may be his temporary status that keeps him on his feet. For his first assignment, Bob gives Josh 17 very important letters to mail out--but by the end of the week, Josh discovers that working on his novel during work is much easier than completing the letters. As the situation becomes more critical, Josh finds that circumstances beyond his control--including a tough night watchman and a beautiful young criminal lawyer--stand in the way of his goal. HAIKU TUNNEL is based upon a semi-autobiographical monologue by Josh Kornbluth detailing the experiences he gathered as a temp while trying to support his writing. A successful initial run in San Francisco in 1990 allowed Kornbluth to tour the country with the show. This screen version, co-written and co-directed by his brother Jacob, retains its monologue roots and is sure to get a nod of recognition from any viewer who has done time in a corporate environment. Not badly done, but overshadowed by the superior (and better funded) Office Space

A bit of an ego-trip, but an entertaining one.

No Japanese poetry or actual tunnels were used in the making of this film, [just] some pretty clever writing and directing

A sort of stylized, abstract companion piece to Mike Judge’s very hilarious Office Space -- a warm, witty and original comedy.

There's just not enough of a story for this to be a feature film.

There are far too many stretches where Josh is simply carried away with being Josh, and we are not particularly amused.

In their low-budget, indie-film way, the Kornbluth brothers have come up with a modest, modern-day equivalent of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Kornbluth is funny, but not funny enough to carry his feature comedy.
