"Harry Potter" Sleight-Of-Hand: Dobby's Disappearing Act
by Jen Yamato | October 09, 2006
Discuss Article
Looks like someone's cast a nasty disappearing spell (written outum scripto!) on "Harry Potter" creature Dobby, since the CGI-powered timid house elf won't be seen in "Order of the Phoenix."

MTV got the word on the Dobby no-show from actor Toby Jones, who voiced the feeble but well-intentioned character in 2002's "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets:"

"I know that the filmmakers have a problem with each new film because the books are getting longer -- there's so much to include in them," Jones remarked."

Although it's looking like Dobby won't be back in "Harry Potter" movie-land anytime soon, fans of the J.K. Rowling super series will meet a new house elf in next summer's "Order of the Phoenix" when the decidedly un-Dobby-like Kreacher graces the big-screen.

Meanwhile, if you really miss the sound of Dobby's voice, you can check out Jones live-acting as Truman Capote in this month's limited release, "Infamous."

Don't you have to have 5 minutes of dobby to interact with Kreacher?

JKR requested Kreacher be left in. That when he steals the locket at Headquarters will play in later in the story.

For a theory that's been going on visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.A.B.#Regulus_Black

"The locket may have been taken either by the house elf Kreacher, who was trying to save Black family artifacts from the house cleaning, or stolen by Mundungus Fletcher, who was keen to exploit the financial potential of any neglected goods. Mundungus is later spotted with a suitcase full of possessions taken from the house, and in the company of the barman from the Hog's Head. J. K. Rowling confirmed the barman is Dumbledore's brother Aberforth. Aberforth was seen drawing his cloak about his throat, as if concealing something, as he walked away from the scene."

I really missed Dobby and the house-elves in Goblet of Fire. It was such a good element in the book...really wish it could have been included.

They really were, Dobby and Winky...ah well, just another golden nugget that people won't get unless they read the books.

Dobby is like a Jar-Jar Binks gone RIGHT. It's ashame he's probably going to be axed from the rest of the films.

trouble is to fit it into 3 hours they have to cut stuff out and Kreacher is better than Dobby to have in as it adds more to the story.
This film has the potential to be fantastic as things are really getting dark. Im just counting the days until the final book and then i will just start over again or have to find something else to get obsessed about. Gonna go have a cold shower now before things get messy!

I'm not really sad that Dobby's out. I didn't miss him or the whole side story about Hermione and the house elves in The Goblet of Fire. To me he always seemed out of place in the darker books anyways.
