Stealth Stunk, Sony Struggles, Sinbad Squashed
by Scott Weinberg | November 15, 2005
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

John Horn of the LA Times delivers an interesting article on the sad state of affairs over at Sony Pictures. Seems that, aside from "Hitch," none of Sony's releases have found an overly receptive audience this year. (For those keeping score, Sony's 2005 releases include "Stealth," "xXx: State of the Union," "Lords of Dogtown," "Bewitched," and that "Deuce Bigalow" sequel.) Also, it seems that "Fun With Dick & Jane" is a merciless money-pit, and that alleged "Sinbad" movie starring Keanu Reeves and "Stealth" director Rob Cohen? Yeah, that project's dead now. Rob Cohen is slated to appear in my forum class about the Hollywood Industry this Friday at UCSB. I'm gonna have to ask him about these! Oooh, I'm getting goosebumps already.

It is not a surprise that Sony Pictures is doing horrible this year because the movies they have put out are absolutely terrible and embarassing. THEY ALL F*****G SUCK! This company deserves to suffer because of these decisions to actually make this shit and because the audience has to suffer with them. Every Hollywood company has its mishaps, but this is not acceptable. When you think about Sony's past in recent years, it seems that they just have one or two huge movies a year (either Spiderman or a derpy Adam Sandler flick) with not much else to offer. They need to stop putting out remakes and sequels and put out original and groundbreaking movies made by top filmmakers, but I strongly doubt it.

Yea I can't say I liked any of the movies that are mentioned above. But that sucks about the Sinbad movie, I thought that it sounded pretty good. And I really want to see Fun with Dick and Jane, it looks hilarious.

Poor Mr. Parisot. I hope he doesn't get the critical blame for Dick and Jane. After Galaxy Quest, I'll continue to have faith in him.

Finally it seems like the message is getting through.

make good movies = make lots of $$$$
make bad movies (remakes, sequels, corny CGI filled ones) = make lots of enemies

Can this really be happening? Are audiences getting smarter?!? This is a great day!

rob cohen is an incredible bad director, he made an OK movie with fast/furious but let's not forget that before that he directed Daylight, a film so bad that put a stop for ever to Sly's acting career

xxx is just awful, the action scenes are standard but the rest is disgusting

haven't seen stealth, but it looks horrid and it never crossed my mind to see it

The audience may getting smarter and tired of remakes, but now that Spielberg has announced that he's going to remake his own Sugarland Express, remakes will probably incease.

Sony should start cranking out two Spider-Man movies a year. That will haul in the profit. :)

No surprise here with Sony, look at how trite all those movies are. The only one I've wanted to see is the worst reviewed of the bunch- Lords of Dogtown. And thats only because I used to skate. Besides, I heard they install a rootkit in your brain if you go watch one of their movies.
