Consensus: Insipid and mirthless, I-Spy bares little resemblance to the TV series that inspired it.

To Scott's dismay, he is teamed with undefeated middleweight champion Kelly Robinson (Eddie Murphy), who is slated to fight in Budapest where suspected Stealth thief, arms dealer and boxing fan Arnold Gundars (Malcolm McDowell) is throwing a party in honor of the boxers. Scott uses cool spy equipment to encourage the egotistical Robinson to work with him. Initially at odds with each other, the two eventually bond as they're chased through Budapest by Gundar's henchmen, using spy tools and street smarts to foil the bad guys. To complicate matters, Scott has a crush on a sexy agent, Rachel (Famke Janssen), who may or may not have her own agenda. Gary Cole plays superstar agent Carlos, the envy of the other agents and the guy with the coolest spy toys. Directed by Betty Thomas (28 DAYS, DR. DOOLITTLE), the film is loosely based on the 1960s television series of the same name starring Robert Culp and Bill Cosby. [More]

Reviews for I Spy
It's easy to watch trash, and although Murphy and his co-stars deserve better, it would be wrong for me to lie to you and say that I was bored.
Cut from the same mold as celluloid trash like Bad Company...[but] both Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson are genuinely funny.
... goes for the easy laugh rather than pushing in a new direction. It's a loosely constructed vehicle, probably on purpose.
A loose, lighthearted romp that's a notch above the usual buddy comedies.
Nothing special, but for fans of Murphy or Wilson it'll be worth a look once it hits video stores.
When a hail of buddy-comedy clichés works in service of two stars as appealing as Murphy and Wilson, memories of 'The Beverly Hillbillies' can wash away like cinematic Calgon.
The rapport between Wilson and Murphy is uproarious, even if the action bits are a little lame.
The cast seems so intent on delivering the goods that you can't help wondering what this might have amounted to if it didn't have such an aversion to actual substance.
