Mark Wahlberg Dishes Some Dirt on "Departed 2" and Maybe "3"!
by Scott Weinberg | February 08, 2007
Discuss Article
Anyone who's seen all three of the "Infernal Affairs" flicks had to know this was coming: Word is that we'll probably be getting a sequel to "The Departed," and perhaps even a prequel as well!

It's been buzzed about for a few weeks, but Oscar nominee Mark Wahlberg recently had a chat with Empire Magazine, and here's what he had to say: "They’re talking about bringing in De Niro to play a senator or a congressman ... You know, the corruption obviously going deeper and higher up the ranks — reaching up the political chain. So it’ll be fun. And if it’s a success, they’re gonna do a prequel and bring everyone back…make it a trilogy."

So while director Martin Scorsese is not (yet) attached to the project, it seems that screenwriter William Monahan is presently hard at work on sequel number one. Mr. Wahlberg seems to think things are moving forward; he claims the sequel could begin production by late this year. If so, cool.

No word yet on whether "Departed 2" will follow along with what went down in "Infernal Affairs 2," but I guess that's part of the reason we'll want to go see it.

Well Scorsese already won the globe for Best Director for the first, maybe he might consider completing the trilogy.

I haven't seen any of the Infernal Affairs movies, but within the framework of the Departed, I just don't see the necessity...?

I agree with frogleg, but if Scorsese is in and it's with Deniro and Wahlberg, I'm seeing that for sure 8)

Um, completely off topic, but is anyone else as annoyed by the "dead silence" ad as i am?

There's a Trilogy?
I only seen the first Infernal Affairs. I didn't know there were more... Yeesh, well I gotta find them because the first one was great!

And this, as long as the big guy at the helm. It can't go wrong.

I say Scorsese should do it. He would do the one thing Coppola couldn't do: make a perfect crime trilogy( Godfather part 3 was absolute shit.)

DeNiro is slowly turning into the new Brando; just cashing in on his past and not giving a shit. His last decent film THE SCORE was ten years ago.

Please stay the fuck away from Infernal Affairs and write your own goddamn story.

wtf are you talking about dude? for one thing the score was released in 2001. for another, i don't see how directing and starring in a film as ambitious as the good shepherd translates to cashing in on his past and not giving a shit. sure, godsend and hide and seek were crap, but let's not give up on him yet.

Because you just can't make one of anything anymore...

And DeNiro did great in THe Good Shepard.

The Godfather is shite.

I aplogise to the millions that I have offended, but its tedious at best.
Apocalypse Now reflects on Coppola far better. That was a mad film.

Hey MMacKK, **** you. Tedious? What the hell? The Godfather is the best movie ever. The only reason for it to be tedious is you having the comprehension level of a two year old. The only reason the Godfather Part III didn't work is because a bunch of people quit out on Coppola the last minute. I love Scorsese's films, but none of them are greater than The Godfather.
