It's hard to like Jackass these days, but it's impossible to hate it either.

Born of the world of underground skateboard videos--where viewers watch more for the accidents than for the tricks--JACKASS began as an MTV series before becoming a big-screen sensation in 2002. Four years on, Johnny Knoxville is a movie star, and cohorts Bam Margera, Chris Pontius, and Steve-O have started successful franchises. One would think that they have moved on---yet here they are, back for more stunts and pranks involving defecation, ejaculation, and pubic hair, and ranging from the disgusting to the ridiculous. Like its predecessor, undoubtedly--in relation to its budget--one of the most profitable studio films in history, JACKASS: NUMBER TWO is merely a series of wince-inducing stunts. These often result in injury--filmed with a handheld camcorder. Highlights this time around include a four-person teeter-totter in the middle of a bull ring; Knoxville, Pontius, and Margera being blasted with riot control pellets; fellow skate video alumnus Spike Jonze in elderly-woman makeup losing his clothing in public; and Knoxville blasting off on the outside of a rocket. And these are just the beginning. There are also puncture wounds, the guys endlessly laughing at one another's injuries, and more male nudity than one normally sees in a mainstream film (including a surplus of scarred and bruised bottoms). JACKASS: NUMBER TWO is bookended by two beautifully filmed sequences--first the gang does a jaw-dropping running of the bulls down a suburban street. Then (and nothing is being spoiled here) the film concludes with an elaborate Busby Berkely musical number. These sequences up the ante a little bit from the first installment, and though JACKASS TWO certainly isn't for everyone, it remains the best and safest way to see a guy blasted into a lake in a rocket-fueled wheelchair. Reviews for Jackass: Number Two
... a film that aims for the lowest-common denominator and falls even shorter.
Remember kids, don't try this at home. Or anywhere else for that matter.
It's probably fair to warn animal-lovers that there's a fair amount of animal distress in the movie - snakes, in particular, get a pretty rough deal all round and the bulls don't seem too happy either.
A lot more money than when they made their first film. But no more sense.
Jackass: Number Two aims low and hits lower, but is as hilarious and uncomfortable an encounter as possible.
It's seems so pathetic and desperate Steve-O. You don't need to lose a limb in order to be loved. Enough.
The new dose of Jackass is way dumber, grosser and gayer (there are more things shoved up male butts than a cowboy could dream of up on Brokeback Mountain, and the guys even sing a homo anthem from La Cage aux folles).
Yes, it contributes to the decline of Western civilization, but yes, it's funny.
Repetition is the point and the sticking point of Number Two, which is all about self-reference and reiteration.
As H.L. Mencken acidly noted, no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the general public.
Their second feature film features much of the same and then much more of the same as a few really big laughs almost forgive how repetitive it all is.
To call the humor sophomoric would be to overstate its sophistication. Call it infantile, and you'll be much closer to the mark. But it's hard to deny that many of the more outrageous bits have an exhilaratingly potent, shock-you-into-guffawing impact.
Niilista como o original, torna-se moderadamente divertido em função de seu inesperado número musical e do sentimento de camaradagem entre seus astros, que parecem realmente torcer uns pelos outros.
It's all pretty hysterical, in a cathartic, if cringe-inducing way, but it becomes too much for one sitting, as even the participants themselves are at times shocked by what unfolds.
There's no debating the Jackass gang's commitment to our amusement, but I find it more tolerable in thirty minute doses -- with commercials.
There are worse things to be found in the slimiest corners of the Internet, but this second film installment of the MTV series brings the lowest excesses of webcam exhibitionism to the mutiplex.
