Jumper Trailer Premiere Coming!
Wednesday brings your first look at the sci-fi adaptation.
"For almost as long as there have been 'Jumpers' there have been those that hunt them." Tune in to RT on Wednesday for the exclusive premiere of the sci-fi thriller Jumper, starring Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson!
Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) is directing the upcoming Fox sci-fi actioner, which is adapted from Stephen Gould's novel and the first in a film trilogy. Hayden Christensen stars as David, a teenager who discovers he has the ability to teleport, or "Jump," and becomes involved in a longstanding war between Jumpers and a secret society committed to hunting them down.

From the Jumper official site:
"For almost as long as there have been "Jumpers" there have been those that hunt them. These people are called Paladins -- an ancient sect that has long recognized the threat that Jumpers pose to the world, the Paladins have evolved into an elite organization of warrior-like individuals who find and kill Jumpers around the globe.
Over the years, the Paladins have cultivated a special skill -- the ability to sense when a Jumper is about to Jump in the vicinity. This heightened awareness gives the Paladins a much needed tool to use when battling the Jumpers. Today, Paladins are so good at killing Jumpers that few make it to adulthood. When Jumpers start Jumping around age 5, their youth and inexperience makes it easy for Paladins to track them."
Playing the leader of the Paladins is Samuel L. Jackson, whose character (as you can see here) is equipped with special Jumper-catching weapons.

More on the Paladin weapons:
"Over time, the Paladins have also created special weapons that help in the capture and extermination of Jumpers. Primary among these are tether weapons, which are shot out of a special kind of gun. The tethers have the ability to harness Jumpers and an electrical charge running through the tethers prevents the Jumper from jumping while the Paladin moves in for the kill. Paladins also use special electrified nets to contain Jumpers."
As he learns more about his powers, David (Christensen) meets other Jumpers, like fellow teenager Griffin (Jamie Bell), a veteran Jumper who's been fighting the Paladins for a while. Jumper also stars Rachel Bilson as Millie, David's childhood friend, and Diane Lane as David's mother, who abandoned him as a child. The script is adapted by Jim Uhls (Fight Club), Simon Kinberg (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), and David S. Goyer (Batman Begins).

Jumper teleports into theaters February 15, 2008.

Elixor writes: on Oct 08 2007 01:43 PM I'm pretty sure that the idea teleportation has been around a lot longer than X-Men. So has the idea of "normal" people hunting "abnormal" people down. People throw around the "rip-off" phrase way too much. There's virtually nothing that's truly original, so cut writers and movie makers some slack. I for one am glad to see more Sci-Fi movies in the pipeline. Keep them coming. (Reply to this) |

cheshire writes: on Oct 08 2007 01:56 PM If anything, Xmen ripped off this book. I think it was written before Xmen. and why not Hayden, Jugger? He's freaking gorgeous, and yes he can act if you give him the chance and proper direction. Get off the Hayden bashing bandwagon that seems to be all the rage and open your small mind. I'm looking forward to this one, it sounds really awesome to me. (Reply to this) |

Oh Dae Su writes: on Oct 08 2007 02:00 PM Hayden is absolutely the number 1 reason I hated the starwars he was in Please pick some one else, worst actor I have seen in a long time, might have well just used a damn 2 by 4 with a smiley face on it (Reply to this) |

eastern2western writes: on Oct 08 2007 02:17 PM Hayden has nothing to do with the outcome of star wars 1-3. It is all george lucas's wonderful return to directing that ruined star wars. The one thing every one agrees on is that the best star wars is empire strikes, a movie that is directed by lucas's usc film professor. (Reply to this) |

cheshire writes: on Oct 08 2007 02:29 PM I agree eastern. No one in Revenge of the Sith was very good, Lucas even managed to bring out the worst in Samuel and Natalie. Give Hayden a break, and sorry Oh Dae, too late to pick someone else, the movie is already made. Maybe try seeing another one of Hayden's movies before you judge so harshly. Plenty of great actors have had bad performaces during their careers, its seems to be just how it works, since no one is perfect. By the way, who would you have picked for the role? And "anyone but him" is a cop out answer. (Reply to this) |

Holly Jolly writes: on Oct 08 2007 04:13 PM Will this probably be better than Daredevil, Ghost Rider and Constantine who have covered this release date in the past? Yes. With such a great director, good writers and interesting casting I look forward to this project even if the explanation at this point is quite lame. (Reply to this) |

CaptainSiberia writes: on Oct 08 2007 04:29 PM It could be good if they play it straight the way Luc Besson or Quentin Tarantino would. But will Hayden end up killing Jackson like he did the last time they were in a movie together? (Reply to this) |

crystalwhiteeyes writes: on Oct 08 2007 05:25 PM Hayden has some acting skills. Go watch Shattered Glass and come back with some intelligence. Nobody acted in Star Wars 1-3 worth a damn because Sir. Lucas's dialogue was better fit for a statue or a log. It wasn't Hayden's fault. You need to watch more films of him than just star wars. Aside from all of that...I'm actually excited to see this. eastern2western writes: on Oct 08 2007 06:05 PM Good directors can make any kind of bad dialogue sound good. However, the actors in episode 1-3 seem to be reading cue-cards in front of them. Personally, I just thinl Lucas has been king for too long and no one has the juevos to point out his errors. (Reply to this) |

jacketman writes: on Oct 08 2007 11:18 PM Wow. Not everyone on this site hates Haden... Surprising. He was pretty good in Life as a House too. That movie could have been so great. Too bad the director shot it and put music to it like a TV movie. I watched the extras on Life as a House and Star Wars Episode 2. Apparently he shines when given the room to be creative and sucks when told EXACTLY how he HAS TO DO something. Kinda like an actor who doesn't have a ton of experience. He does have skills. We shall see in the next few years if he becomes a good actor. He was ok in Episode 3, I thought. If that movie was the only prequal no one would have whined about it. Episode 2 was the true directing and acting travesty that tried my patience with a story I loved. (Reply to this) |

karle writes: on Oct 08 2007 11:27 PM In reply to this comment (#1177220) Yeah, this has little to nothing to do with the book whatsoever. In the book there was only one jumper. There was no paladins, no sect, no jumper-killing-organization. Samuel L. Jackson's character doesn't exist in the book, paladin or not. David and Millie are the names of characters in the book, but they don't meet til he is like 18. The book is about a teenager who runs away from an abusive father when he finds he can teleport. Over time he learns to control it, robs a bank (who could resist), meets millie, tracks down his mother, who had run from home years earlier after almost being beaten to death by his father. Shortly after, a loved one dies, and he spends the rest of the book trying to track down the terrorist responsible. All the while he is being chased down by the Gov't who want to know how it is he does what he does. In the end, he ends up fighting terrorists, saving hostages, falling in love, and resolving issues with the three men who had taken his mother and girlfriend from him.
