Green Lantern Gets a Director Too!

Berlanti teams with comic vets to bring yellow-fearing hero to theaters.

We can't do a Justice League of America story, it seems, without triggering a wave of comments from the RT faithful debating the merits of various members of the Green Lantern Corps, and arguing which of them should be "the" Green Lantern in the movie.

We still don't have any JLA Green Lantern casting news for you -- but we can tell you Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has hired a team to bring the ring-wielding galactic guardian to the big screen in his very own film. According to a report published yesterday, the studio has tapped Greg Berlanti to write and direct Green Lantern.

Berlanti, best known for his work on TV shows such as Dirty Sexy Money, Brothers & Sisters, Everwood, and Dawson's Creek, will be writing the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. These days, Guggenheim is a writer/producer on Berlanti's Brothers & Sisters -- but, as Variety notes, his past work on print editions of Amazing Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Blade make him uniquely qualified for the gig. For his part, Green -- who's currently an executive producer on NBC's Heroes -- worked on Smallville and wrote the DC title Superman/Batman.

The Variety report pegs the feature-length Lantern as Hal Jordan, summing up his story below:

"Green Lantern" was hatched in 1940. Hal Jordan, a second-generation test pilot, is an ordinary man who has been charged with defending a sector of the universe.

God I hope this postpones JLA. Seperate movies for these characters have a better chance at success. (While odds are they won't be very good anyway) Green Lantern's story is pretty cool so, here's to hoping they get it right.

ive been barking up this tree for years. glad to see that we finally get a GL movie. im not impressed by these people, so im going to wait for more news before i pass judgement.

but, it justifies what ive been saying all along. they didnt want to waste hal jordan in that abomination of a JLA movie, they wanted to give him his own triology. im sure akkndon3 will be pleased with this news. cheer up buddy, i told you hal would be treated with the respect of his own franchise rather than play straight man to adam brody's flash in teen titans.

This could work. Do a Green Lantern movie before or after Justice League with Hal Jordan. In the end he could die and pass it on to John Stewart. If done before League, Stewart could pick up the mantle for the JL movie. If done after JL, it could be alluded to in the JL movie about the death of Hal Jordan.

Marc Guggenheim is one of the worst writers in Wolverine's history- which is a hard thing to do, due to all the crap writers on that title. I can safely say that this guy will butcher this script- not sure about the other two though.

Mighty Max actually has an intriguing plot and cool characters. If done right, Mighty Max movie might be an epic waiting to happen.

FYI, the last episode was so sad. I literally cried my eyes out.

Wait, the guy who did Dawson's Creek is gonna take this on? Why do they even bother, it's gonna suck and the only thing that it will accomplish is to make a quick buck for the studios due to the impending plethora of special effects, but it will inevitably kill any potential for sequels cause no one will like it when they actually go to see it. Not unlike the x-men franchise thanks to our boy Brett "****ty mc**** ****" Ratner.

its a shame really. the hal jordan trilogy has the potential to be an awesome space opera if it were handled correctly. (wishful thinking i know) but if they had spielberg or cameron on this, it would be absolutely mind blowing. i have no idea how these unknowns are going to handle it....
