The Kids in the Hall, Canada's celebrated sketch comedy troupe, make their feature film debut playing more than 40 roles between them in this slapstick tale of a deranged scientist in the employ of Roritor Pharmaceuticals who develops Gleemonex, a pill designed to make the taker happy all the time. As the pill begins to cut across every social and economic boundary, virtually eliminating depression, it is discovered that Gleemonex has a very serious side effect: it may put its users into a coma. BRAIN CANDY uses this story as a loose springboard to allow the Kids to indulge in their trademark mayhem, with each member diving into both male and female roles with equal aplomb. [More]

Reviews for The Kids in the Hall - Brain Candy
A quintet of Canadian TV comedians hit the cinema screen with a splat.
There are some very funny bits, but they're interspersed with long stretches of exposition that drag the whole thing down, down, down.
The ensemble is assured and adroitly gets the gags across without telegraphing punch lines.
A twisted comedy for twisted times, this movie made me happy. Go figure.
It was supposed to be a comedy, but it just wasn't funny. End of story.
The Kids stopped doing their show two years ago. It's too bad that this may be what they're remembered for.
I was privy to an early test screening of this, and it was weirder and better than the final product. Even the final, watered-down version beats the hell out of most safe so-called comedies, though.
