Not horrible and certainly entertaining enough for what it's trying to be and enjoyable to some degree for those looking for this sort of action, this film is the equivalent of having a powerful engine hidden within some old and boring jalopy.

Li stars as Liu Jiuan, a Chinese agent so dedicated to his job that he has no friends, no family, no dreams. He is sent to Paris to help the French police capture a Chinese gangster, but France's top cop, Jeanne-Pierre Richard (Tcheky Karyo), has set Liu up to take the fall for a brutal killing he himself carried out. On the run in a strange city, Liu keeps a low profile until he unwillingly becomes friends with an American hooker, Jessica (Bridget Fonda)--who just happens to hold the key to his innocence. But Richard is always one step ahead of them--he has Jessica's daughter. Li and Fonda make a great team; their relationship is at the core of the film, as neither character has ever been able to put his complete trust in another person before. The action scenes, directed by Corey Yuen, are fast and furious and very violent, featuring mesmerizing moves by Li, especially one involving a billiard ball. Chris Nahon, in his directorial debut, makes excellent use of the location, including numerous shots of famous Parisian landmarks as the bad cops try to machine-gun down Liu in the streets and sewers and on the Seine. Reviews for Kiss of the Dragon
It will separate hard-core Jet Li followers from the fair-weather fans.
[Jet Li] isn't dubbed in Kiss of the Dragon, but he's so removed from the proceedings that he might as well be.
Li has an undeniable screen presence -- and legitimate martial arts credentials. He would have profited from a more legitimate script.
[Jet's] great to watch as an action hero, but Kiss of the Dragon ties him up with its silly plot and its ridiculous ultraviolence.
Despite his awesome brawling ability, Li has yet to demonstrate a persona that will make him worth watching in between fights.
The action is extremely well-choreographed with scenes moving fluidly and ending with intense visceral punches.
And in the end, you still wish there were a story somewhere worthy of Li's dynamism and elegance.
The Hollywood action genre, sliding into a lazy dependence on computer-generated fakery, needs this authentic kick to the head delivered by Jet Li.
Kiss Of The Dragon is a fire-breathing monster as a martial arts action movie.
While the stunts are subdued, the gore, carnage and brutality are as over the top as Karyo's performance and role.
You won't be disappointed when the hero uses everything from pool balls to chopsticks and a bracelet full of acupuncture needles as lethal weapons.
Conventional in all but the odd detail, such as that death-by-chopsticks bit, Kiss of the Dragon is an appallingly violent and bloody study of the predictable.
There's still not nearly enough action to compensate for murky plotting and unsympathetic characters.
I like the movie on a simple physical level. There is no deeper meaning and no higher skill involved; just professional action, well-staged and filmed with a certain stylistic elegance.
On the plus side, we have Jet Li ... On the minus side, we have everything else, especially that plot.
Like a merely semi-dishonest politician, like an only slightly overweight cop, the picture is a half-decent example of its kind.
