KISSING JESSICA STEIN: Jessica Stein (Jennifer Westfeldt) is a lovely young conservative Jewish girl with the perfect loft situated on New York City's Upper West Side, a fun job working for a hip newspaper, and beautiful clothes. The only thing she doesn't have is the ideal boyfriend. Not that she doesn't have tons of dates: from geeky nerds to suave sexy types, Jessica is sought after by throngs of men. She just doesn't like any of the guys who like her. When her coworker, Joan (Jackie Hoffman), reads her an ad from the personals of the Village Voice, Jessica knows she's interested. Even when she realizes that the ad is in the "women seeking women" section, she figures it's worth a try. A funny, girly, prissy, very lipstick-lesbian relationship ensues with Chelsea gallery owner Helen (Heather Juergensen). When the girls aren't making out, they share makeup secrets and raid each other's closets. However, Helen's daring nymphomaniac side clashes with Jessica's conservative straight side, and the couple is forced to face some real challenges, one of which is Jessica's hilarious Scarsdale-based matchmaker mother (Tovah Feldshuh). A light, laugh-a-minute romantic comedy, KISSING JESSICA STEIN is a good fit for fans of sitcoms like ALLY MCBEAL, SEX IN THE CITY, and WILL AND GRACE. [More]

Reviews for Kissing Jessica Stein
Westfeldt and Juergensen's wordy script tries for both mainstream and offbeat, but gets lost in between.
Enjoyable, New York-set ‘bi-try’ romantic comedy with a sharp script and sweet performances by its two leads.
An entertaining, likeable comedy which has been cleverly and fluently developed from its stage origins.
A funny, refreshing take on the romantic comedy genre that may sidestep a few of the political issues it raises, but delivers great performances and plenty of laughs.
The ending isn't entirely convincing, but it's easy to forgive flaws in such a hilarious date movie, and the history of first-date hell sequence is priceless.
With genuinely astute observations, this New York rom-com features a good script and an engaging cast that keeps us laughing.
The cast is wonderful and the story is commendably free of the sectarian us-versus-them tone of many romantic gay movies.
Director Charles Herman-Wurmfeld's movie knows what it wants, what its limits are, and delivers its delights accordingly.
Three years of writing, rehearsing, and performing Jessica together helped develop the film organically for Westfeldt and Juergensen.
Esta baboseira com pretensões intelectuais possui um roteiro (escrito pelas duas protagonistas) cheio de absurdos e um vocabulário rebuscado que denuncia sua própria arrogância.
This charming, thought-provoking New York fest of life and love has its rewards.
I'd be interested to see these women star in another movie, but I'm not crossing my fingers that they write another one.
Venturesome yet unthreatening, this movie is box-office smart enough to seem cutting-edge without ever drawing blood.
