Centered on the high society of Philadelphia's Main Line and those who wish to marry into it, the film addresses issues of class in America. Having grown up on the wrong side of the tracks, Kitty eventually becomes a successful executive in a New York fashion house. However, she still carries the torch for her former husband, Wyn, whose wealthy family couldn't accept her working-class background. Unwilling to forfeit his money and position for her, Wyn had the marriage is annulled. Several years later, in New York, Kitty must choose between two men--Wyn, who has reentered her life and wants to run away with her, and Mark, a doctor who wishes to marry her.
