Trailer Bulletin: The Lake House
by Scott Weinberg | April 24, 2006

If I told you that Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves had gotten together to make another movie, you'd probably have visions of something like "Speed 3: Malfunctioing Ski-Lift," but instead we have a wistful little rom-drama called "The Lake House," which is based on a 2002 Korean film called "Il Mare." Anyway, here's the trailer.

"A woman doctor and an architecture school dropout live in the same house two years apart and fall in love via letters they exchange through a mailbox that mysteriously bridges time."

Sandra Bullock in "Miss Congeniality 2"

Plus the trailer has that really weepy Keane song, which fits the chick-flicky tone just perfectly.

Co-starring Christopher Plummer and Shohreh Aghdashloo, "The Lake House" opens up on June 16th.

I saw the Korean version, and that was pretty good. Looks like one of those shot-for-shot remakes. I guess if you're gonna reteam for another movie, you might as well do something safe.

I don't understand why actors are so comfortable with "safe" films. Safe isn't safe because the film might end up being too plain to notice. Seems like doing something daring gets them more respect.

Having said that though this movie looks interesting.

The trailer is really well made. It shows the magical aspect of the story and really resembles the original movie. As for safe choices, I think the safest for Keanu and Sandra would be to do another action movie. But the two are going for a very different route, for a human drama that will show them in a very different way than people are used to. It's not only a romance, it leads with personal choices, familiar conflicts, it's a mature story. I hope the movie delivers so well as the trailer did.

There are only 3 kinda of movies that I'll like no matter what:

romantic comedies/dramas
kids movies
zombie flicks.

I will enjoy this.

Really looking forward to this
I watched the trailer 5 times last week and I am looking forward to watching the whole movie on the big scene. I normally don't like romances but this one has a different and fresh look and a unique tone.

My favorite scenes were the magical growing tree and the mysterious mailbox.

I haven't seen the Korean original but I'm tempted to buy it now.

It has my interest
I normally laugh at these "predictable" love stories, but this one seems less predictable and I am actually intrigued. My guess is it will do very well in the theaters if 50% of the critics like it.
