Consensus: Though Jolie is appealing, Life or Something Like It is too contrived and predictable to convincingly convey its message of stopping to smell the roses.

She is also engaged to a Seattle Mariners star (Christian Kane). To top off her perfect life, her boss recommends her for a dream job, a network position in New York City. In order to increase her chances, he sends her to do field work with the renowned but difficult cameraman, Pete (Edward Burns). when she's on an assignment, Lanie runs into a homeless man, the prophet Jack (Tony Shalhoub), who makes three predictions: that the Seattle Seahawks will beat the Denver Broncos 19-13, that it will hail the following day, and that she'll be dead by next Thursday. When the first two predictions come true, Lanie reevaluates her life and realizes she's missing out on the smaller things because of her ambition. Jolie is sexy, adorable, and whimsical in her first comedy role. The sizzling banter between Burns and Jolie recalls Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant in HIS GIRL FRIDAY. LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT is a lovely departure for director Steven Herek (ROCK STAR, BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE). [More]

The biggest revelation is that Angelina Jolie looks pretty hot when she's dolled up with big blonde hair.

Angelina Jolie's romance/comedy/drama isn't terribly romantic, comedic or dramatic.

Ms. Jolie tries her best to be sweet, brisk, and breezy, but the film's leaden pace and hackneyed plot won't allow her to be much more than a cardboard spectator...

Whoever said ‘blondes have more fun’ may have been right, but that doesn’t mean we have to PAY to watch it happen in such trivial fashion.

The film carries itself with the same fake, contented evasiveness throughout.

Life, though funny and sometimes charming, doesn't give Lanie a believable context in which to stop and smell the roses.

A predictable and contrived, yet somewhat enjoyable film that was spoiled by the preview.

Making a "feather-light" comedy isn't an excuse for making a bad movie.

I wanted a great movie or something like that (and didn't quite get it). But if you're looking for a movie to watch on a rainy day when you want to skip work and stay home in bed with someone you love, it's not bad.

...(The film) asks Jolie to turn off the manic energy that has always been her calling card and to play a normal woman instead. You might as well try to cram a Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade balloon into a dollhouse.

Comes on like a romantic comedy with metaphysical pretensions, but somehow these opposing aspects manage to cancel each other out, leaving us with laugh-lite comedy and, well, metaphysical pretensions.

The film offered Jolie her first opportunity to star in a comedic role, and it proves she should stick to drama.

While the finished product is not without merit it’s difficult to erase the bitter taste of squandered opportunities.

The only type of lives this glossy comedy-drama resembles are ones in formulaic mainstream movies.
