Patrick Wilson (Pretty Much) Confirmed for "Watchmen"

He did great work in both "Hard Candy" and "Little Children," so now it might be time for Patrick Wilson's shot at the comic book material.

While discussing his latest film ("Evening") with ComingSoon.net, Mr. Wilson was asked about his possible involvement in Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" adaptation. And while the actor didn't exactly confirm that news, well, he also kinda did:

I don't know much about the "Nite Owl" character that Wilson seems slated to play, but the guy's a darn good actor, so I say it's a good pick.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Eight of the nine "news stories" involve comic-book adaptations. The ninth is a videogame adaptation!

COME ON! Report something interesting for once. I don't need to know what out-of-the-blue actor has "expressed interest" in a role in a movie that's not slated to come out for more than a year (probably two!) It's fun every now and then to speculate about these things, but there are OTHER MOVIES being made that aren't just for the 14 year old boys (I know, it sounds hard to believe, but there are).

This is not meant to knock "Watchmen" or "Iron Man" or "Avengers" or whatnot, I love "Watchmen," but come on people! This must stop before we start getting reports on the "Luke Cage" craft services table!

Dig deeper. Go outside your zone of comfort. Not everybody is as nerdtacular as you. I'm a pretty big nerd, but even I am getting sick of reading about the 100 upcoming comic book movies .

You know nothing pisses me off more than someone trying to tell you how to do you're job. Sure I don't work for Rotten Tomatoes or do anything remotley close to this but I can sure as hell say what I think. If you got a problem with what they are posting then you have two options...get off your ass and go pick up an application for Rotten Tomatoes since you apparently already know how to do their job...or STOP READING THEIR POSTS!!! If you don't like what they give you then take your ass somewhere else where they give you what you want! I want to puke everything time I read an article about a new Marvel comic book movie being or that FF2 make 57 mil this weekend when the awesome Grindhouse only made 11. But there is nothing else to report about until the fools who keep going to see shitty shitty comic book movies (Spider-Man, FF, Ghost Rider, Hulk, Daredevil, Elektra, etc) STOP FINANCING THESE FRANCHISES BY SEEING THEM! Marvel is ruining cinema. Five years from now there won't be any point in putting R rated movies through the theaters because no one will be seeing them making it a waste of their money. I don't blame them...I blame f*cking marvel...

Yeah, you're on the wrong site. Simple fact: people love to talk, and praise, and bitch and moan about "geek" movies, as opposed to movies like "The Queen," or "The Last King of Scotland," as good as those movies might be. I kind of agree with you, after all, this is a MOVIE site, not a COMIC MOVIE site, but they're just reporting about stuff they know their readers want to know about. Can't blame 'em.

oh.. and Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl, I don't know. He LOOKS (I emphasize looks) like he'd make a good Nite Owl, but he'd have to put on a few pounds. Nite Owl is a middle-aged, out of shape, retired superhero. Wilson looks too in-shape, from a google image search.

Although I'm an atheist, I'm going to start praying to the God's of a different religion every week that this movie will not be made, and when production collapses and Zach Snyder gives up, I will dedicate my life to which that religion, for surely it would be the true church.

Yeah, it's another comic book movie but Frank Millers books are not exactly super hero movies. Sin City and 300 were very good films and The Watchmen could be the best, it is his best book. Oh and to all those comic book haters out there, The Watchmen is on Times list of 100 best books of all time so I think they have some good stuff to work with. Oh and Walken as Rorscharch, awsome.

If there's anything worse than film snobs, its comic book movie snobs. Give me a break, already. Comic book films resonate with people b/c its like modern day mythology (see M. Night's Unbreakable for explanation). The stories hit universal cords that resonate, its escapist fare, and most of it is suitable to watch with your kids. I don't blame Marvel, their making a bunch of money, and some quality product is getting out there (Spiderman films, X-Men films, Daredevil, the first Fantastic Four, Punisher), it certainly outweighs the crap and is worth the risk for them and us.

I bet Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk are both going to be critically praised and financially successful. Just b/c Marvel has more depth of characters than DC, doesn't mean they shouldn't use them. Just making Batman and Superman movies get old, after awhile.

Watchmen is a D.C. property and not owned by Marvel. Zach Snyder never worked on a Marvel film, he worked on 300 which was neither DC or Marvel.

Spider-man is a great franchise, as was X-men (mostly). There are some pretty terrible comic book movies, but there are still some diamonds in the rough.

"R" movies are doing better than ever. Especially since "The Matrix," they have been doing better and better.

It's hard to blame the whole Marvel Comics Company when a small fraction of the work they do is concerned with movies. There first and most important job is the comics, and in many ways they are failing at that. But DC's Vertigo line continues to be good, so read them instead.

People and the money they throw at the movies studios is the problem. Don't look just at Marvel Studios, don't forget Sony and others. Really the worst movies in terms of quality are comedies and family movies recently. They are what ruining the cinema in my opinion.

I hope Watchmen is good, I enjoyed 300, so we'll see. I hope casting goes well, and I for one appreciate the updates.

shatter, i take offense to you calling punisher "quality". tom jane definately deserved better, but that movie was a piece of crap. the punisher using a fire hydrant and some parking tickets as his diabolical plan? come on man.... you want someone to do punisher justice, get zach snyder, hed be perfect for that... anyways, marvel seems to be getting their stuff together, as both iron man and hulk have some seriously talented casts, and ant man is being directed by edgar wright. hopefully with marvel in control of their own properties now, they can assume more quality control than the hollywood studios are currently doing. for god sake's they gave mark steven johnson three cracks at marvel comic book movies. (daredevil wasnt that bad but a disappointment nonetheless, and completely did not have a daredevil feel to it)

i like snyder, and im sure he is passionate about the project, but i dont think he's the right fit for this. watchmen has no action sequences to speak of, which we all know is his best strength. sure, there are moments of action which he could expand upon (the whole vietnam/manhattan/comedian bit) but the action depicted is in one panel. either way, as much as i like snyder, nothing in his earlier work is quite like this material, even if it is a comic book.

also, the casting worries me somewhat. i like patrick wilson, but he really isnt nite owl, unless they put him in a fat suit or force him to eat pasta all day, and he is too young for the role. also, the fact that they wanted keanu reeves for dr manhattan worries me as well, even if he turned it down. nothing against keanu, but i dont think he's dr manhattan. these two odd casting rumors make me a little hesitant, although the jackie earle haley and jude law rumors are spot on. this is the ultimate wait and see movie.

I'd love it for once if people on Rotten Tomatoes can do something else but bitch about a film adapted from a comic book. Yes, there is a good track record to indicate that this won't live up to many people's expectations. Yes, most comic book movies are bad. And yes, actors you may not like will be cast in some of the roles.

My advice to those of you that can only find it in themselves to bitch about everything is to shut it. There has been someone before you that has said it much better and with more diction, so for the sake of the internet community, don't bother to open your mouth if you can't manage to say something constructive.

I would personally LOVE to see this comic along with one of my all-time favs, Y: The Last Man made into HBO series, but I know that's not going to happen.

I agree with the HBO stuff. If they could take some of these graphic novels and turn them into miniseries...oh, my imagination is running wild. A personal favorite I'd like to see: Marvels by Alex Ross. The story, the artwork, the dialog, everything just screams "MINISERIES" to me. Ohhhh.

FireflyFan4evr, if people don't offer criticism, then film companies will see fit to keep turning out dreck such as Daredevil and Punisher (sorry Shatter24, but those films are awful) and movies starring the Wayans brothers or Ashton Kutcher. Sorry if you don't like negative criticism, but that too bad, it's part of watching films carefully. Just because someone else has said it does not mean their opinions speak for everyone else, or that their comments resonate the same way. If all you want to hear are happy things, go watch a Disney movie...but not Bambi, okay?

I'm glad to see this movie is being made. The graphic novels adaptations of the past couple years have mostly been great. Its the Marvel movies that suck! I'm a hugh comic book/graphic novel fan. I'm anticipating 30 Days of Night. I puke on the idea of Frank Miller's Ronin being directed by the same director as Stomp the Yard. I will disagree with you with your statement about R movies doing better than ever. The only R film to make it near $100 mil opening other than the Matrix was 300 and a Passion of a Christ. Other than those three only two others barely hit the 50 mil mark. Needless to say 50mil is still a good opening but they are very rarely rated R anymore. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about and there have been alot of rated R films do good in theaters but I would sure like to know which ones first!

I know nothing of The Watchmen, but Patrick Wilson is great and both Little Children and Hard Candy are in my top 10 films of last year. The only other thing that I know is that Zack Snyder directed 300 which I really didn't like at all and part of the reason for that was the drawn out over dramatic direction.

I couldnt agree with you more! they are gonna leave out soo frickin much in this movie its going to drive me insane. I heard the Mars scenes were getting axed! like wtf! Alan Moore is right... you cannot make a film adaptation of this movie. i just cant wait to see if zach snyder can pull this off... cause odds are, its highly unlikely. (a good example... V for Vendetta... wonderful graphic novel, sh@$ for a movie, moores masterpieces must be left on print!!!!)

V for Vendetta the movie was awesome on it's own grounds. I say that never having read the graphic novel so I can't comment on how it compares, but I thought V had great dialog, and interesting story that could resonate with just about everyone and was cleverly directed.
