Consensus: Despite the presence of a large, talented cast, the jokes in Little Nicky are dumb, tasteless, and not that funny, and Adam Sandler's character is grating to watch.

Runtime: 90 mins

Genre: Comedies

Nicky (Sandler) is relieved when his father (Harvey Keitel) decides to continue as ruler of the underworld for another 10,000 years instead of picking one of his bullying brothers, Adrian (Rhys Ifans) or Cassius (Tom "Tiny" Lister), to reign. Adrian and Cassius, hungry for power, decide to travel to New York City in order to spread Hell on Earth. Only Nicky can stop them and save his father--and the world--from his brothers' evil schemes. But Nicky has no idea what to expect from New York City, and he has to deal with new activities such as eating, sleeping, and meeting a new girlfriend, Valerie (Patricia Arquette). His friends Mr. Beefy, a talking bulldog, and John and Peter, a pair of hardcore heavy metal fans, try to help Nicky stand up for himself and eventually save the universe. LITTLE NICKY features a cast of regulars from other Adam Sandler movies, plus a hilariously bizarre sense of humor that allows all sorts of odd and twisted things to happen. [More]

The sight of Harvey Keitel playing the Devil -- the father of Sandler's Little Nicky -- may be worth the price of admission...

For most of you, I can't recommend this movie. On the other hand, if you're a fan like me, you'll be glad to know that the next Adam Sandler movie is out.

The most visually imaginative movie Sandler has made -- but it's also one of the most mind-bogglingly tasteless.

It benefits from higher production values and a strong supporting cast and ranks as one of the better Sandler movies.

There are laughs to be had, yet the movie is, if anything, more strenuous than it is funny.

If you can check your intellect at Nicky's door, get ready for some empty-headed and devilish fun.

By all rights and with few exceptions, everyone involved with this movie should be thoroughly embarrassed.

What could be worse than a bad Sandler comedy? How about a bad Sandler comedy with special effects?

Casting strokes are plunked out there without the slightest development or elaboration.

A devilishly energetic vehicle that contains about as many laughs as his previous features combined.

A very stupid movie. And that's just the way we like it.

Little Nicky might well become the yardstick by which subsequent awfulness is measured; it all but shatters the bell curve.

The problem with Little Nicky is that it is a comedy without humor.

I can see how Little Nicky could have worked, It's just that Sandler, at the center, is a distraction.

Nobody expects any character development or a real story from anything in the Sandler catalogue, but at least make the stupid jokes original.

Be prepared to spend the first twenty minutes in humor hell, where several big name actors flop over gags that can't beat a rubber chicken on the funnymeter.

Little Nicky can never get past the vibe that the whole thing was an excuse for Sandler to give work to his friends so they could riff on the set.
